What was the last album you bought? Give us a review!
Mine was S.F.Sorrow, by The Pretty Things.
Arguably the first concept album, and probably the first rock opera. It preceded Tommy by a year.
Basically, the story is about the life of a guy called Sebastian F Sorrow. In the first song he is born, and then he goes through life, falling in love, going off to war and then goes to live in America. When he arranges for his girl to move with him, the balloon she is travelling in catches fire and she dies. Sorrow is in shock, and grows old lonely.
It's a fabulous album, full of harmonies, melody, psychedelic effects, and some wonderful guitar work. The art of story-telling and lyric writing is not lost on these guys!
It's been said that it is on a par with Sgt Peppers and Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Its certainly in that league if not quite as good, and comes from the same stable, produced by Norman Smith at Abbey Road.
Well worth checking out. I possibly prefer their next album, Parachute, just a little more, but either way, The Pretty Things are a great, if vastly underated, band.

Practice is when everything works and nobody knows why.
Here we combine Theory with Practice: Nothing works and nobody knows why.

Re: What was the last album you bought? Give us a review!
The last album I bought. Hmmm, an easy one.
It's a band called Mannhai and a record called The Exploder.
They were performing at the repatriation party in our garrison in Kontioranta (also known as Gonabeach in our slang ). No, I didn't repatriate yet, still 3 months left, but I watched the bands gig. A very very good gig.
Mannhai is a band which plays Classic rock with a capital c. They take influences from Purple, Zep, Black Sabbath and everything else from 70s and add their own modern stamp at the songs. And they write their own songs. They sound like they could have been recorded in the 70s.
I had a little chat with the singer (who's screams were a little bit like Gillan's from time to time, GREAT) after the gig and bought the record from him. He is a Purple fan and I even managed to mention this forum to him. He promised to take a look.
So all in all, check this band out if you like great classic rock.

Finnish band Nightwish "Once".
Don't know what I think of this yet... pompous operametal and some of it actually works fine.
The singer is gorgeous. They do a cover on Blackmores "Snowman" not on this album but on a video I have.
It went to number one in the UK this week.

Not the last album I bought but umm yeah The Eyes of Alice Cooper is one of his best in a long time. As in, ever Cooper album since the late 1970s has been touted as a return to the elusive form but this one at least sees him move away from the preachy territory covered by the last two albums. AC is back with the viciously humorous lyrics and overall more memorable songs than he's put out in quite a while. The leads on Dragontown were better but The Eyes is a more satisfying album overall.

Bananas by Deep Purple, or should I say: Bananas by Ian Gillan with special guests former members of Deep Purple, Rainbow, Whitesnake, Kansas, Gary Moore.
Pretty much says it all as far as a review goes.
One of the better Gillan solo albums. Better than Dream Catcher anyway.

Wow. If that's true it's an incredible feat of will power. My folks keep talking about getting me into detox to cure me of my 'addiction' to buying music and i suspect they aren' joking.

It sums up my state of being very well thank you.
Whitesnake/DC, BN and Dio haven't had a release in the meantime and I've been through and am well past that "lets buy everything that might not suck that bad just for the sake of trying it out and hopefully liking it after having it grow on me like a fungus" phase. There aren't many artists around making new music that exite me these days and I just don't have the time to waste listening to something that doesn't totally thrill me anymore.
If it doesn't jump out and grab me by the balls and say "Listen to this", then I don't.

So why buy a 'Gillan solo album' when it doesn't thrill you anymore?
