Sure, Metallica has gone downhill in the last number of years, but Kirk did some great playing on the first five albums. It shouldn't be dis-credited so quickly in my mind. Well I wouldn't quite put him in the grunge-hack-guitarist league of the likes of Cobain and co but let's face it, even in the 80s where he clearly was at the top of his game he doesn't sound any better than your average, third-rate, bog-standard heavy metal soloist. From the Black Album onwards he's unlistenable, he has a crappy vibrato, plays off-tune in some solos, his bends are useless, uses the same five Hendrix rip-off pentatonic licks and breaks out the wah-wah just about on every single solo! Thank god St. Anger doesn't have any leads. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Christos Gatzidis)Wed, 08 Sep 2004 00:50:34 +0000 Re: Greek Theater Gighttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p14680,from=rss#post14680https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p14680,from=rss#post14680quote:RickWells wrote: You know, while making no claims that Hammett is the greatest, I do think he takes a lot of unwarrented flak. I've never thought Hammet's solos were anything special until I heard this boot from one '86 show. I'll hastily pull back all critisism, that guy does not lack anything of importance! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Atle)Tue, 07 Sep 2004 21:44:43 +0000 Re: Greek Theater Gighttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p14679,from=rss#post14679https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p14679,from=rss#post14679quote:Christos Gatzidis wrote: He's better than Hammett for sure (then again most guitarists are ). Oh well,I can't say I haven't seen him with them,I believe you have one of my pictures of it Satch! I'll have to live with my fond memories of Reno 2002. Glad you liked it,I hope the memory lasts long enough to keep you interested in what the future holds for them.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Gillans micstand)Mon, 06 Sep 2004 23:55:03 +0000 Greek Theater Gighttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p14672,from=rss#post14672https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p14672,from=rss#post14672A hot Saturday Night in the fifth row, with about seven stacks of Marshalls to the right of me. Thin Lizzy was allright, I mean any group that has John Sykes in it has to be above average, NO? I mean if you get tired of all those Whitesnake Royalties you might as well go out and re-join an old band. Yeah that sounds about right. The one and only, the at this time best hard rock guitarist in the world was next, (I would say Ritchie but that man is not playing hard rock anymore) Yes, Joe Satriani was next and he was super. What I enjoy most about Joe other than what is the obvious fact that he is indeed simply the best guitar player in the world, is this. I have never, ever heard this man hit a bad note. He is flawless, ethereal, maybe not priceless like Ritchie, but stunning. If any of you have learned to play guitar and at this time consider yourself as good or better than Joe Satriani it is allright to stop taking lessons now. LOL. Hey Joe if you ever decide to put some vocals to some of those songs I have about ten of them ready. Oh, where was I? Joe yeah, this was as good as it gets, Joe put on another clinic. I thank you very much and look forward to seeing you on New Years Day right across from Edison Field, cheers. Now, Deep Purple. Well, what should I say about these guys. I have seen them about sixteen times now. How about this, Roger Glover and Ian Paice are the best bass player and drummer period. Well, that is indeed a good start. How abouts Don Airey? He is starting to sound like the keyboard player for Deep Purple. That is saying a LOT, I mean filling the socks that Jon Lord used to wear is probably the next to the hardest job in the world. You know I loved the keyboard solo intro where Don plays Mr. Crowley, awesome Don, just awesome. Yes, and the United Airlines thing was splendid, enjoyed that too. In fact the lead solo to Highway witch Don played was almost note perfect. This guy has the chops down. How about the old crooner, the guy in the white yoga outfit, now? Yeah we should talk about Ian Gillan now. Hey, he puts on a good show, maybe not what he used to be on the vocals but that Stonehenge Tour took a toll on the vocal chords, No? You know the song selection from the new album was a bit strange, but hey somebody has to make the songlist. The best songs were well the OLD ONES, Perfect Strangers as usual, and thank you for bringing Joe out onstage again, he is simply awesome and was. The intro to Highway Star is weak, you might take another listen to what you guys are doing there. Very questionable. I must say almost everytime Ian introduces KAYBD it is a KODAK MOMENT all over AGAIN. This time what was it, well they say its illegal in some places and if you do it sometimes it might bring a tear to your eye, Priceless. A very good show this time fellas, once again the keyboard is too low in the mix at the very beginning of the show and well NO, still not liking the Tone of the blue guitar especially when Steve plays without the band but anyway OVERALL, Fantastic, cheers.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Satch)Mon, 06 Sep 2004 04:00:34 +0000
