Leppard's Elliot Duets With Ian Hunter - Rant Band Review

Irish Centre, Leeds - Tuesday 25th May 2004

Is it the case that Ian Hunter's standing within the music business enables him to attract the likes of Def Leppard's Joe Elliot on stage to vocally assist on the encores.....or are they just good friends?
I was very pleasantly surprised by Ian Hunter and his Rant Band. Not the original 'Mott' - but almost. They even got Mick Ralphs to turn out. Hunter is a genuine showman with a music-hall edge that gets his audience into a high state of involvement. And you don't realise how many hits he's had until you hear them all churned out live in front of you. All The Young Dudes, Roll Away The Stone, Saturday Gigs, Golden Age Of R&R, All The Way From Memphis etc. etc. In his current guise, Hunter is now blonde. Gone are the dark tresses that were so much a part of his earlier image. A good thing? I don't rightly know, although the curls remain...as do the shades. I expected brunette but got blonde. I guess he's growing old disgracefully.
Would I see him again? Most certainly! The guy's top heavy with charisma, talent and class.....a star, and desevedly so

Wouldn't surprise me a bit,Def Leppard happen to be gigantic fans of Mott The Hoople.

During Def Leppards behind the music, Elliot describes how he came up with the idea for 'Pour Some Sugar on Me', "I was sitting around the studio playing Mott the Hoople songs on a beat up accoustic guitar".
