ZZ Top, July 16 2004, Bayfest, Sarnia, ONT, Canada
I went to this concert not knowing what to expect from these old southern rockers. I am not a big ZZ Top fan but enjoy a few of there songs and of course they would play them, most of the greatest hits were played. I cant remember the setlist..
They opened with Under Pressure and closed with Tush or Legs, I cant remember which but both of those were the 2 encores. Sharp Dressed Man was played, Gimme All Your Lovin', and Cheap sunglasses and Manic Mechanic were the songs I remember being played. The new songs didnt sound out of place either but I cant remember the name of them.
Well they were really good and made for a very enjoyable night and Billy Gibbons(guitarist) and Dusty Hill(bassist) seemed to enjoy themselves as well but the drummer whose name escapes my mind looked angry all night.
I love those beards
Well if you ever have a chance to ZZ Top for a cheap price near you, I'd consider you go and see them even if your only a fan of a few songs.
Here is the picture from the local Newspaper.

The drummer is ironically called Frank Beard and is the one without... er... a beard!!

Haha yeah, I knew that and have laughed at that one myself many times, so it was kind of strange how I forgot his name. Anyways, They are great!

And Beard was his actual birth name. That was not a stage name.

They're actually coming to the New York State Fair this year (end of August, I think), and I've been on the fence about going - I might have to go now. I do like some of their songs, and played a few in a previous band I was in. I'm also intrigued by something I heard a while ago - that Billy GIbbons was Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarist? Anyone know if this is true??

Billy Gibbons used to be in a band called The Moving Sidewalks (I've got their album coming in the post!). I think it's from this era that Jimi said Billy was one of his favourite guitarists.

Definetely go. I was also on the fence about going but certainly dont regret doing so now! They were awesome. One of the best concerts I have ever seen. Behind only Cheap Trick and Deep Purple.

Just got my Moving Sidewalks CD!
It's magic!
Great guitar playing by Gibbons. Also has excellent organ work, cool vocals, and some great psychedelic studio effects.
The band toured with Hendrix which is probably where Jimi got his admiration for Billy.
There are traces of Hendrix's style on this album too!

Yeah, Gibbons handles lead vocals too!
They only made one album, called 'Flash', but the remastered version has 5 bonus tracks too, which just about makes it a complete collection CD!
I'm not even a big ZZ Top fan. My interests with this lay mainly in the whole American psychedelic garage music scene, of which this is a part.
Apparantly they didn't make many ripples outside of Texas, but nonetheless, the album is definitely worth checking out! Great stuff!
And I'm sure fans of ZZ Top will get a kick out of hearing a young, and beardless, Billy Gibbons!
