Wasn't Derek St. Holmes there as well? Derek has excellent range!! IS he not bald these days?

Holmes in my opinion is as good as Ian Gillan, Ronnie Dio, Steve Walsh, and my newly annoited singer Kim Wilson.

Is that the geezer who did an album in the early 80's with Brad Whitford out of Aerosmith?

He may be a geezer at 51/52, but the guy can flat-out sing his ass off. In a way his singing style kinda reminds of Hughes, but with (in my opinion) more bravado.

One needs listen to this gentleman (Holmes) sing live to really appreciate his talents. He appears as guest on the Nuge DVD, Full Bluntal Nugity and proceeds to kick Uncle Ted's butt with his great pipes.

Yes, St Holmes was there as well. He also did an excellent job. He is nearly bald (what hair he has, he keeps trimmed very short) but looks like he keeps himself in great shape. He still looks like he's having fun on stage as well - not just going through the motions. For his last 2 songs, Carmine Appice & Tim Bogart (of Vanilla Fudge) joined him - was a helluva jam session! One of the two songs was "Stranglehold."

Derek St Holmes was also in the Michael Schenker Group for a very short time. I saw him live with them actually.

Interesting, didn't know that one... Was it around 84-85 by any chance?

Late 83. Built To Destroy had been absolutely savaged by Gary Bushell in Sounds - he tore it to pieces and was hugely critical of Gary Barden's performance (which isn't that great, to be honest). I think St Holmes was brought in as a result of this, to try and bolster things in the vocal department. He only lasted for the UK tour and a few European dates, although I think that he may have added some vocals to an American re-mix of Built To Destroy also.

As I said, I saw this line-up live and I don't think Schenker really made enough use of him onstage. He could have carried off the lead singer role himself, but was reduced to guitar / backing vocals. He took lead on Still Love That Little Devil (from memory).

Is that the same Gary Bushell that writes in The Sun these days? emoticon Seriously though, I never thought much of Barden either (and not only on Built To Destroy!), had someone like Holmes been used on the album it would have been all the better for it...

Yes, that's him. He used to be into the so-called Oi bands like Angelic Upstarts and the Cockney Rejects, but conversely was also a Blackmore fan (JLT era)!!!
