Lalena Why isn't Lalena (dp style) ever included in one of these compilations... this is a brilliant version. It would sit there perfectly and shine... definitely a song for the depressed drunks in this world.

In my more cynical moments I look at the omission of such excellent MkI material as "Lalena" as just another manifestation of the lack of respect accorded Deep Purple MkI in general by the general music world. In more practical moments, I think it may be the overall abundance of excellent Deep Purple material to choose from in order to make up a compilation that encompasses the entire career of Deep Purple. It still does seem that the MkI phase of the band gets overlooked more quickly than other Mks do, though.

Re: Lalena Lalena is on my compilation of Mark I songs.
The Best of Deep Purple (All songs are from the Mark I era, but they have photos of Mark IV (Bolin era) on the cover.

What I know, it was never a particular hit anywhere... and neither is it an original DP song. Might be a reason, I guess.
It doesn't mean I don't agree with you, BO!

If I'm not mistaken, the only compilation I can recall offhand that "Lalena" appears on is the old Scepter Citation* MkI compilation, "The Best of Deep Purple".
I was surprised back in the early '70s when it was left off of Warner's otherwise excellent MkI compilation, "Purple Passages".
*that was the label the album was released on in the U.S. I think it was simultaneously released on other labels in a couple of other countries - with different album jacket covers, too...the U.S. version had a framed 'gold record' for it's cover art.
