Re: The Mark One Advocation Syndicate:
Since I won't be around too much here anymore, lets talk about markI songs.
First off I'd like to take the oppritunity to discuss one of my alltime favorite songs ever made:
Hush
The vocal harmony of the repeated title is absoutely sublime and fabulous.
The organ solo is one of Jon Lords finest
I really don't care what anyone else thinks about that,it is highly underrated by even
his staunchest of fans, his couger growl at the begining of the song is also fabulous.
This is a Deep Purple song in the highest standard of which they have displayed throughout their existance, they may not have written it but it remains one of their best examples of their output to this day, they made this song their own.
Please elaborate...

Re: The Mark One Advocation Syndicate:
"Hush" was THE song that brought Deep Purple to me - or vice versa!. An absolutely fantasic tune, and quite "different" for it's time, via the use of the Hammond organ as the "solo" instrument. I'm not sure that this was a first for singles, but it was certainly fairly rare.
I have to admit that through the years my love for other MkI tracks has overtaken "Hush" - in a "favorites" sense - but it's place in Deep Purple's, and rock music's history is undeniable.

Re: The Mark One Advocation Syndicate:
Gillan's Micstand,
I have to agree with you here.
HUSH was the song that made me want to play keyboards (and eventually, organ) after I had stopped playing piano at age 11.
The organ was either soloing out in front, or a constant rhythmic beating sound under the rest of the mix. It never stopped being important throughout the 4m:28s song.
No live version of HUSH has EVER, and I mean ever matched up to the original '68 studio mix.
The mental images created in my mind when I hear that song, of 1960's, big cars, Edwardian clothing, long hair, big wooden Hammonds rocking back and forth just really spark my musical imagination; what a time it must have been to be alive!
What I'd do to go back in a time machine and hear that song in September of 1968 when it hit #4 on AM Radio. It would have made me proud!
When I hear it on the radio today, I'll stop what I'm doing, look around and wonder if anyone else in the room, or public place, is thinking the same thing I am: "whoahh, there it is...there it is! Deep Purple rules, and this is the reason why!"
I know they probably aren't, but it's a little mind game I like to play with myself. Pretend that everyone else gets off on music the same way that I do....It makes the world seem like a happier place to me, even if it is all just in my imagination.
Yes, HUSH is a very good song that has some very strong meaning to me, no doubt about it.

What's that supposed to mean? You better not go anywhere. I mean...who am I supposed to talk Mk 1 Purple with? I mean Mk2Forever and his cronies kicked me out of their treehouse a long time ago!
No seriously,
Whatever you have to do, I respect that, but I hope you don't stray too far, and do come back from time to time. I've enjoyed talking to you, and I hope we can still maintain contact via email over the issues we've discussed in the past.
Do take care while you are gone and remember to pop in from time to time.

Hush truely majesctic stuff to say the least.
It's amazing how far one can get from it within Purples catologue and still keep being drawn back to it,thats a measure of it's relativity.

I suspect there'll always be room for a fountain of useless knowledge...alright, give us some!
I know...who's footsteps are heard at the end of "Hey Joe"? C'mon, it's worth a lifetime seat to ya!

Re: The Mark One Advocation Syndicate:
Hi Burner!
I love MK1 too, but what are you like with other psychedelia?
I've been getting more and more into it over the last year, with albums by Jefferson Airplane, Vanilla Fudge, Love, Traffic, Country Joe, and Quicksilver Messenger Service.
Most recent psychedelic album I bought:
Mass in F Minor - Electric Prunes
Are you into all this kind of stuff too? Any recommendations?
Cheers,
