Re: Collector's Heaven
Misterpid, what 'type' of tape is that exactly? I'm curious - and know little about the formats!

That's an old 1/4 inch reel to reel tape (3 3/4 inches per second - tape speed). A good condition tape played on a good machine provides a sound much better than casette or 8 track. Some people like the sound better than vinyl - others don't. They're getting kind of hard to find. Taliesyn seems to show up on ebay more than any other DP release and goes between $20-$30. A few copies of In Rock have shown up in the past few months and sold in the $50-$60 range. A sealed copy of the first album sold for $90 earlier this month.
It's probably the least efficient way to listen to music. You really have to want to listen to the whole album straight through (not a problem in this case). Fast forwarding an rewinding doesn't wind the tape on the spool as evenly as regular playing - and if you only listen to one side, the tape is left on your takeup reel and will eventually need to go back onto the correct reel.
My dad gave me his old tape machine a few years ago, and I've been picking up tapes here and there ever since. It's a fun little hobby that people don't see very often. My friends love looking through my collection (about 80 tapes). This is the only DP release I have.

Re: Collector's Heaven
Very nice piece, in fact this is the first one I've seen besides mine, and was in a bid war over it... those were the days...
Metaljim, I'd say it's worth something, if you think I'm joshing, or perhaps wrong, do some research on DP and family posters, and see for yourself how much an even less rare item fetches... some of my posters are now worth over 500, and most of them I paid no more than 30 dollars a piece for at auction, stores and venders.
30 has to be the highest I've paid for a poster, but the nicest ones seem to have costed the least, go figure.
Nice to see you have this, it's a worthy and valuable piece.

This is the music book for the In Rock and Fireball albums. It has the music, lyrics and a nice selection of band photos.
