Wrong Man?

Judge for yourself, you can find a forum HERE

and I'll link just one, of many online sources on the subject of Wayne Williams

A notoriously covered up case, that refuses to close completely, something like 5 re openings, and all kinds of law enforcement that claim he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, then convicted on nothing but cicumstantial evidence, then becuase of the conviction, blamed for a ton of murders he never got charged for, after the fact, but has been conceited to have been the perpatrator of, and condemned for life by the public, media and justice system.

I think stopping at a conviction, crushes all beneath it's wheels, and that has a serious impact on the system, but one case used to be able to change the entire system, it's getting harder and harder to do that these days, becuase of the matrix grid that is now in place in most states, cities and counties in America, and such a system, makes them more pigheaded everyday, when it comes to closing murder cases, after a conviction.
(my two cents... is he innocent, or as they so conveniently put "not guilty" which is their way of saying that NOBODY WHO IS CHARGED WITH A CRIME, IS EVER "INNOCENT" ACCORDING TO THE SYSTEM, BECAUSE THEY CAN'T ADMIT THEIR OWN INACURACIES, THEREFORE THEY CAN'T EVEN ENTERTAIN THE THOUGHT OF DESCRIBING THE INNOCENT CORRECTLY)

Am I the only one who's known about the Wayne Williams case, and identify with Purples cry of defense for him?

Seems like you're the only one...but, Gillan said something about the lyrics during their show in Hell, Norway, "he's been in prison for so many years" etc. Interesting story!

Just read that now Larry. Cheers for posting that up. It's an interesting read. Bit of a strange case. Was the lyrics directly by this case?

You're likely the man to ask... what other lyrics has IG written about real life events?

Re: Wrong Man?

It's about Wayne Williams himself, and the evidence that supports his innocense.
It could be that Steve tipped Gillan about this one, for a lyric idea, since he is from the south... not sure about that.

I do know that Gillan only had the help of lyrics to 4 songs on ROTD from Roger though, contrary to belief that he spent more time making the Gillans Inn album, and just did a cut and paste on ROTD. emoticon

As far as more songs, aren't they all true stories?
I know we can agree about SOTW being an event of sorts.
Jack Ruby is a reference that comes to mind, some event there.
He often referes to places and things that have happened there... so there is really too many to mention, as it's his style, to both narrate, and use his imagination together, one of my favorite things about him.

So a lot of his lyrics are fictional?

Yes, but the combo factor is there alot as well, and I've always used the term "Worldly" to describe him in general.

I thought Michael Lee Jackson (guitarist on Gillan's Inn and also a real life attorney) was the one who led Ian to this song?

You could very well be right about that, but can you tell us more about it?
Not only is he an attorney, but an entertainment manager as well, and seems to be a decent giutar player.
Is he American, from the east coast somewhere, Buffalo NY maybe?

I think it´s more like that Ian sets himself into Wayne William´s position in that song, imagining how he would act in such a situation and that it wouldn´t go down well in any way.

There´s a good deal of true stories and actual events in Gillan´s lyrics, like Thrashed from Born Again, which is a story that happened to him while recording the album another example would be Somebody Stole My Guitar which happened to Gillan in some sort of ghost town. There´s also Puget Sound which is a story from his first trip to america in his early youth(I think he was like 12 or so) with his mother and his sister, and what happened to him as they travelled through the country on the greyhound bus.
