Re: With ROTD...ROCK RULES!!!

I'm happy....

Solos that are worth the price of a DVD....well it depends on the price of the DVD. ;-)

What makes the '69 Blackmre concerto solo so special is the context of the solo...it was totally out of place with a hostile orchestra leering at him as he tore it up. Mucically brilliant...but there's more to it than that.

Now to answer the question: Ritchie solos worth the price of the DVD post 1980:

Tearin Out My Heart: Live Between the Eyes
Gypsy's Kiss: New Live and Rare
Plenty more that aren't on DVD...I just got a copy of the new Live In Europe '93....Blackmore has some absolutely brilliant moments there....

Morse: Speed King and SIFLS from Perihelion
Pictures of Home: Total Abandon

That is a great one, but the solo in Under the Gun is perhaps even better. It does seem that after awhile, he has no idea where to go with the solo, so it becomes complete stream of consciousness!

I wish they'd release that show officially, despite Gillan's voice being down. It's a great show IMO!

I'd prefere an Australian gig from 84, where the band is just as fine, but Gillan much better !

stream of consciousness is a good description of how Ritchie plays when he's most effective.
