With ROTD...ROCK RULES!!!
I saw this ROTD review on Amazon and it pretty much nails things about the greatness of Deep Purple then & now...
Being a Deep Purple fan for almost 40 years makes me pretty biased in all my opinions of this bands work. I, like many others whom have grown up on real music especially that of the caliber of Deep Purple will all agree in unison that this bands best work was with guitarist Ritchie Blackmore at the helm. This does not mean I don't like albums such as Come Taste The Band featuring Tommy Bolin on guitar. I rate that as one of the funkiest albums I have ever heard and I still play it regularly.
This bands work since Blackmore's demise and Steve Morse's ascendancy has been nothing short of phenomenal. Regardless of the age of the bands members and the obvious, shall we say modern day trends towards music written and produced for radio play aimed at fourteen something year olds, this band has remained true to its philosophy that ROCK RULES.
This latest addition to their long list of credits "Rapture Of The Deep" is testimony again to their music which is heavy on guitar, Hammond organ, bass, drums and of course top flight vocals rich on lyrics ( heaps of lyrics). All I can say is that I am now onto my 5th listen and I can't get the rhythm and beat of "Wrong Man" out of my mind.
Forget Deep Purple of the seventies. That band was the best of all time bar none. This is Deep Purple of the new era, a band almost single handedly carrying on the manta of POP ROCK culture into the new millennium, a band that after 40 years is still defying the trends of all modern bands and producing albums and music that most probably won't exist once they call it a day. This album is a must for all purveyors of fine rock music.

Well, I agree that they are making POP ROCK today instead of HARD ROCK!

For me DP doesn't have a defined style. Their style is...Deep Purple. You can call them whatever you want, I am loving the music they are making right now.

Ah... the smell of rotten bananas... and too bad for you, I hope it doesn't ruin your entire life, but since it seems to have ruined a large part of it(cause there doesn't seem to be much left of you)
Maybe you should take some friendly advice, and get off the subject, before you implode!!!!!!!!!

Re: With ROTD...ROCK RULES!!!
I had a friend who ate Pop Rocks and drank a Pepsi and his head exploded.
But seriously, what about the current DP is Pop Rock? There's a couple of lighter songs on ROTD....Girls Like That...Don't Let Go. But I certainly wouldn't call songs like Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye, Junkyard Blues and Money Talks as "Poppy."
I like them...you think they are "poopy"...but whether you like them or not...they aren't the kind of "poppy" songs you hear on the charts these days.
What bands are in this Pop Rock genre you describe? I thnk of Pop Rock 2006 style...I think of Rob Thomas's new LP...I certainly don't think those 2 records sound a like?

Re: With ROTD...ROCK RULES!!!
I don't have the faintest idea... how can songs like Call Of The Wild, and and the entire S&M album, be classified as anything heavier than POP ROCK, or POP METAL if you will?
I find that to be a better question, since the two line ups of concern, didn't exactly specialize in a variety of styles, unlike the current line up, thanks to Steve Morse, just about one of the only guitarists out there, who isn't intimidated by fans that are limited in their musical taste, or he wouldn't have lasted this long in the band... he expressed that he knew, coming in, that alot of people, don't like the idea of change, but that a band, that doesn't play a variety of styles, is a band, that he can't be in.
(Moscow 96 TV interview, on the Dynamo stadium DVD, mine anyway)

Re: With ROTD...ROCK RULES!!!
I'm glad it wasn't just me that was puzzled by this post. I understand (well sort of) why some fans don't like ROTD but "pop rock" it ain't....
