Re: Rapture Of The Deep has gold status in Germany

I don't think the 5000 limited editions have been sold in the UK , I would say the German sales are the main reason DP are still able to secure recording deals. If you look back at recent tours , the german legs are far bigger than the rest of Europe. IMO it is the German fans who are keeping DP(as recording artists) going , God bless the Germans they are true rock fans.

What I am trying to say in my clumsy way is that the music industry big wigs do not see sales in Eastern Europe as great publicity gaining success they tend to look at sales in the USA UK and Western Europe as a bench mark to whether a band is worth signing . I appreciate that DP have a huge following all over the world and that makes me proud to be a fan. My main gripe is here in the UK where they get little acknowledgement for their past or for the great album they have just produced ROTD . We have TV advertisements for every type of bilge ever recorded but for DP nothing people do not know they are still recording. My apologies for lack of knowledge about the popularity of DP in Eastern Europe but I am a frustrated UK fan and i can only hope the Monsters of Rock event can regenerate interest in ROTD.Thanks for the reply.

Yes,you`re right .In principal the culture & mantality in West Europe change a lot not only in music in last 15 years. In England it`s quite different even then EU.I think the best thing now is that EMI,BMG & Eagle will make a strong competition to issue some unissue material. That mean each company will do own advertisment for DP for forthcoming title. And my expectations are great about next two years. emoticon

I share Tel's frusration as a US fan...hey after the MTC opus..it's obvious Ian's not thrilled about coming here for another greatest hit tour...i doubt we'll see a DP tour till 2007

Deep Purple's visibility in the states in non-existent....In a land where 3 Doors Down is considered an excellent band.....what can i expect...

I've mentioned to IG that it would be great if the band could advertise its new albums on national TV in the U.S., like John Fogerty recently did with his "The Long Road Home" album for Fantasy Records(mostly a compilation disc, but some good new material, too). I don't know what the band's budget parameters are for that kind of expense, though. But I've suggested that DP consider alternate methods of promotion in this day and age, such as TV ads, appearing on TV talk shows, etc. What DP needs to realize is that it is viewed as just another client by its two current record companies. If the band wants the kind of creative promotion that is needed nowadays to get some attention, it needs a personal promoter who thinks outside of the proverbial box. Whoever Deep Purple's promoter is has not been getting the job done now for more than a decade. That is, undoubtedly, why Ritchie Blackmore stated as a condition for him ever recording new material with Purple, the band would have to ditch its current management.

I don't know what are the polish sale figures for ROTD, but it has been recently voted as the second best album of 2005 in the pole made by polish bigest rock magazine- "Teraz Rock". It only lost with "Mezmerize" by SOAD, outrunning "X & Y", "How To Dismantle..." and some other "big" albums. Also:
Biggest Hit: "Money Talks" #4
Best vocalist: Ian Gillan #4
Best band: Deep Purple #4
Event: new Deep Purple album #8
