I'm not at all technical but several of the songs just sound, for lack of a better word...muddled. There's a lot going on, but it's hard to pick it up unless you are listening through headphones.

I think Purpendicular was one of the best produced and engineered LP in DP history where songs like LMS and Soon Forgotten really shined as you could hear everything clearly....

I wish ROTD sounded more like that, because the songs and playing are inspired.

Exactly. Lots of good riffs, tunes and ideas (and some not), but they drown in lack of production. As you say; Purpendicular sounds good and well produced (good job, Rog!) - as a proffesional album should be! Loosen My Strings...wow! emoticon

I hear very few bad riffs ideas and tunes on ROTD myself, but I do have other minor issues with it...and btw,Purpendicular was a group compostion,as it clearly states "written and produced by DEEP PURPLE." emoticon

Yes... I was talking about ROTD when I mentioned the good riffs and ideas. But the productiong on Purpendicular is far better, imho.

Rog put in his fifth on that one,and clearly shows...as his bass playing took a front seat for once.

I hear no distortion on the volcals...very smooth to my ears,if a tad thin in a few numbers, but thats all,his rich tone and character remain in tact,as they are what is most important to me about a singers appeal, not suggesting you wish he could still scream with the best of him, like he used to when it was in style, thank god the decline of popularity of that style, has coincided with his age having an impact on that factor.

If you don't hear that the vocals are distortied, but think that they sound smooth, you should maybe check your hearing.

Boy, you will defend everything they do wont you?

How the hell do you jump to that conclusion from what I say about the mix???emoticon

I defend very little about how the thing sounds, and anything I feel strongly about in opposition of them,I am clear about as well...if you say I need my ears fixed,well...then it's only fair to say that you should do the same about your eyes.

Your reply seems like just a reason to tell yet another member of these forums that we're up the current line ups ass...you really don't have a clue who you're getting yourself into it with,if you want to make things about me...then follow my posting alot more carefully, and I'm sure you'll come up with a better way of banter with me,by better I mean atleast you'll have a perspective of my tatse in music,vs. my enthusiasm for this line up. emoticon

Just one of us...not who you think either.emoticon

As for RS and myself,it's been over a year since we carried on like that,as I was a ghost around here for the last year or so...and he's given me a wide berth back. Alot has built up I guess...ah...I think we feel a little better now. emoticon

I love ROTD, but I do miss Rog's production. I think he captured the essence of the band better, IMO. I would like to hear more Don in the ROTD mix. Can't wait for the re-master! LOL!

The title track is "okay" and also "MTV" is different, I like that. If there is a good thing I'll say it, man.

The production is where I draw my line...it sounds like a re written at the last minute script or something...a short cut was taken as far as I'm concerned.
