Ancient Greek, you are confusing me with an uncritical Morse-era fan.

And finally, I wasn't taking back what I said, more that where I said it was out of place. Therefore I totally understand that it appeared provocative to some. Any chance of an apology just being taken in good grace?

Dude, what is the matter with you? You are apologising for something that doesn't exist. Get a grip.

What do you know about it? It was made way back and it was my part in making the peace. Does apologising mean I'm weak to you?

I'd be really interested in hearing ROTD in Roger's production. I think that would have made a big difference. I think the sound and production kills a lot of the potetial of ROTD. I really hope the next album will be Roger produced.

I like the direction that Bradford is taking the band in the terms of material...there's a lot less filler than normal on the last 2 cds. Like most of the posters I have a problem with the sound ont he album. I wish they could get the sound they got on the Purpendicular cd.

Bradford must have been smoking too much of something at one point or another during the mixing process...serious buisness, there is a terrible fuzz on the drums as well, which kills Paices great performance...the guy can't mix rock drums very well at all,and as I said before, there is a sound component missing from the recording....my wave slider will not move, and thats very annoying because I have to fiddle with it before I can listen to it,but I'd like not to have to do this. emoticon

It's a big complaint that I'll have to live with I guess, and although I have 3 different territories of the Bananas cd,I didn't have the problems everyone seemed to have...now I get it with ROTD,this is a rock band, they need to be recorded like one.

I'm only on my 4th listen to ROTD, but I'll agree with most of the comments over the sound quality. I really like the live feel of the new album, but the sound is rather congested, and lifeless at times.

Compared to Purpendicular, Bananas and now ROTD have more compression, which was probably added during mastering to make the CD sound louder, and it does. The problem with all this compression is it kills the natural dynamics of the instruments, and you end up with a rather dead, or lifeless sounding recording at times.

Compare the sound of SIFLS or Lossen My Strings from Purpendicular to the songs ROTD and CQA and you'll hear what what I mean. The instruments all have more dynamics and room to BREATH in a more natural way on Purpendicular, with more air and space around them.

We all know that ROTD was recorded in a very small room, probabaly another factor to consider.

I'll pretty much agree with everything said here.

Good points and well expressed. Loosen My Strings is the best example....listen to the interplay of the rythym section with Lord and Morse's playing. You can hear everything...yet is all meshes. Loosen is one of my favorite reunion era tracks and that mix is amazing....

I'm not a sonic expert but ROTD sounds a little muddled...which is a shame because the material is excellent...

And I reitterate my praise of Bradford for geting the band to put down good songs....just bring in a different engineer next time...

Loosen My Strings was one of the first Purple songs in a long time where I could hear each and every instrument channeled properly...maybe since SOTW.

The problem with the production and the sound could be solved very easy: Bring in a proper producer! Bradford is just soooo wrong for Purple! I think that he kills a lot on both Bananas and ROTD!
