Re: Rapture and Steve Morse

RB the King ?
Hahaha , he certainly dresses like one ( sorry !)
I like most of his work before BN , but as I have said before I rate Morse just as high.
I know people on-line and IRL that is just as good or better than both ,IMO.
These guys are mostly unknown , but come on guys ?
Surely , we all know how many good guitarist there are out there ?
Talking as if RB ( or anyone else )is the one and only King , is just stupid , IMO !

Sorry guys, but I agree. I am not saying SM is better than RB.

Is there no difference to you between the two Blackmores in question?

Or do you fit the discription of Vikings asessment that some think he's the only living breathing great guitarist on the planet...whether he's better than ANYONE or not?

A) There is a big difference, and I enjoy both the Blackmores very much- much more than the other one in question.

B) No!

Ah...please let us know of just a couple that don't get in the way of this for you...I've never heard of this artist you call "no!" emoticon
Any tasteful preferences?

"Yes, you are saying that SM is a 1000 times better than REUNION Blackmore DP!"

well, I don't understand your post at all.
I say this: Blackmore in the seventies cannot be touched by anybody in the world. But Steve Morse is far better than Blackmore in the 80's and 90's.

So what is your point then??

Re: Rapture and Steve Morse

As a member of a band Steve Morse is better than RB in the 80s and 90s. They've produced stronger albums and he is consistently good in concert.

ROTD
Purpendicular
Bananas
Abandon

vs.

Perfect Strangers
HOBL
Slaves and Masters
TBRO

The only really album in the Rithcie pile approaching greatness is Perfect Strangers. HOBL and TBRO are spotty and SM only rises above a fair Rainbow CD a couple of times.

ROTD and Purpendicular are great....Bananas is good...Abandon is spotty.

Blackers was up and down in the 80s and 90s but when he's on he's untouchable as a live performer. But if you can't count on him being on most of the time....that's not acceptable to those who shell out $ for the off nights.

Plus the Blackmore studio work was very spotty and he had a dysfuntional relatiosnhip with the lead singer.

I do sometime pine for a Blackers solo when I hear Morse era stuff....I like Steve's treatment of Blackmore solos and riffs (excepting Smoke) but it's still not quite the same is it.....

Steve has just as many memorable (well at least to my DP drenched ears) moments as RB had in the reunion era.....solos on SIFLS, 7th Heaven, Bananas, Don't Let Go and Rapture are as good as solo spots on all of the reunion era stuff excepting Perfect Strangers (which i think shows off some of Ritchie's best work ever)

As long as urple plays 2/3s of Blackmore songs in their set...Steve won''t be able to break free of Blackers shadow. ROTD is the tour I hope where 2/3 of the material is newer stuff.....

I hope so , too.....I fully understand that some people in the audience would feel cheated if their favorite song from way back isnt played....hard to please everyone , I guess.

Re: Rapture and Steve Morse

real fans would enjoy it anyway. there would be a problem with people who know only the stuff the band played in the 70's and early 80's.

Recently I have been to a concert by a portuguese band Madredeus. They played the songs only from their 2 latest albums. And that is it. Great hits only in the encores.

So it is about having the guts to do it.

But on the other hand the band might enjoy playing old stuff as well. So I don't know really.

I don't know about stronger albums, that's a matter of taste. But since I never play Slaves & Masters, I guess that gives Morse the edge 4 to 3. As for the second point, Morse has been consistently good in concert, but so was Blackmore in all the shows I've been to from 1973, 1985, 1987 and 2005.

But that CHOHW DVD could have been better if Blackmore smiled a bit more with his guitar. emoticon
