I wish they would, what have they really got to lose at this point? If it doesn't work, well thats a problem they'll have to rectify next time out, learning from it.

YES!!!! It makes me think of the recent Stones tour, where they play MAYBE 3 or 4 of the new album's songs, and then wonder why the new disc does not sell!!!! Come on, geniuses!!! A handful of classics and then some Morse stuff! I'd like to see Blackmore-era songs be no more than half the show. Stay relevant in concert, for God's sake; the new albums have some great songs. Play them.

i have to say you are absolutely obsessed with your not liking ROTD/new stuff and with other people liking it.
unbelieveable.
My post was a generalization cause I thought I did not need to explain to you for the 100th time that my posts are NOT ALWAYS about liking/not liking Steve Morse Era or ROTD.
But ok, once agian
I meant that real fans are those who followed and still follow the band (as opposed to those who know only a few songs like Highway Star, SOTW or Child in Time) would enjoy the show with new songs as well cause seeing Dp live is an exciting experience in itself - at least that is what I imagine most fans feel.
There are some people who come to DP shows who know only the best of DP and take no interest in other stuff. These would probably be disapointed if instead of SOTD the band played Rat Bat Blue or SIFLS as an encore - for example.
This of course does not mean that real fans are those who prefer new stuff to old stuff.
I must say your obsession and a constant search for some hidden "I love ROTD" message in my posts is getting a bit unhealthy.
and annoying as well.
Well, WrongMan, I think your posts are a tad annoying too!
You don't get it do you? I want Deep Purple to rely on the new stuff when they are touring 'cause I've seen them do uninspired versions of the old songs to many times, anyway they can't top what I saw them do with Ritchie and Jon when it comes to the old numbers. Steve ain't Blackmore (and Blackmore couldn't do Steve's stuff either)!
OK, so a "real fan" is one who enjoy both the old and the new Purple? I consider myself a "real fan", but I don't enjoy seeing them live as much as I did before 'cause I think that a lot of the fire and energy is gone. That doesn't make me less of a fan!!!
I guess you never saw MKII, and that is your loss. IMO you don't know what you're talking about. If you haven't seen MKII live, you haven't seen Purple. ALL IN MY OPINION! The fire they had is long gone, and the Purple of 2005 is, IMO, just a tribute band to themselves.

Re: Rapture and Steve Morse
you did not get my point killer bananas
I just tried to make a distinction between fans in general - you, me, other people here in this forum (irrespectively which line up they prefer) and accidental people who just popped in to see a "legend".
The latter group would be disappointed that they did not hear Smoke on the Water or Child in Time, propbably one of the few songs of DP they know.
But of course a more interesting question would be whether fans who prefer older line ups would enjoy/appreciate (probably the latter option would be more in question) the fact that the band decided to move on and limit the number of the classics they play live.
I understand that you don't like listening to them live in general. So my question would be directed more to people who take at least a little pleasure in seeing the band live nowadays.
merry christmas

Re: Rapture and Steve Morse
but that was not the point.
Of course if we compare mk 2 with present dp, old dp will win hands down
the whole discussion was about something else

Hi KB,
If I may make one observation.
In the case of WM, English isn't his first language. I know if I had to try and learn Polish and then go on a Polish forum and discuss finer points with someone who speaks Polish as their first language - seems a daunting prospect!!!
In the circumstances he does do miles better than I would do in a foreign language. Takes me all my time to speak English!!!
All the best
