Re: Rapture tour setlist
In DP's history, they've never been adventurous with their setlists. They add songs from the current album and rely on the big hits from the past. The Morse era has been the most adventurous with the setlists, but that is all relative.3
MK3's short existence was the most aggressive with their own material, but the key term here is 'short existence'.

Re: Rapture tour setlist
MkIV was probably the last & most adventurous lineup in terms of setlist content/continuity.

Re: Rapture tour setlist
Good point...Mk IV really did try and push their material...can't fault them for that...Early Mark Morse did a little better in this regard but they've fallen back of late....hopefully Ian's not talking out of his hindquarters with quotes like playing every ROTD song live.....

Re: Rapture tour setlist
Can a band that has been around this long, not?
And tell us what Yes relies on?
Or is that another story altogether?

Fact.
Fact? Not quite.
They are making new albums and trying to promote them. Other bands tour without making new albums. Now those rely on nostalgia.
Whether the new albums are good enough is a matter of opinion not fact.

He has said the same every time they released an album in the latter years. Putting 4 or 5 new songs in, and removing all the other MkMorse stuff, is not the way to do it. I know, most say, that's what the audience wants, the casual fans. But honestly, the casual fan knows SOTW and maybe CIT and nothing else. The rest, they don't know. But it's better music...erm, it was music, untill Morse and Gillan slaughtered it.
It's only the hardcore fan that know POH, WABMC,NOC,Fireball, PS and the tunes from MkMorse. It doesn't matter what they play for the casual fan, as long as the close with SOTW they are happy.

Yes never really went away as such...and they play music from their early days as well as more recent stuff. On their 35th anniversary tour they played tracks from their history from the 70s 80s and 90s as well as newer material.
Deep Purple will play stuff from their most recent album and then play the same tired old nostalgia tracks. It wouldn't be so bad if Purple were to vary these tracks. It was great to hear No On Came for instance but why oh why dont they play more from In Rock? There is so much 'new' nostalgia material on there that they could use instead of the same ol' Machine Head stuff.

Yes they do promote their latest album...but how much will we hear from Banananas or Purpendicular on the next tour? It will be a few tracks from RotD and the rest will be Machine Head.
