Rapture tour setlist

i love the purps but their falling into the same trap that they fell into in the '80's the setlist is becoming boring.
with the injection of some tracks from rapture (which i love) i want them to do what they did when purpendicular came out. a whole new setlist. i want to hear loads from rapture. i would like a lot more from the steve morse era. i want new/old stuff from in rock i want new stuff from PS i would love to hear a modern version of bad attitude or mitzi dupree.
do the boys really think we will riot if they don't play smoke i might riot if they do! give it a rest same goes for perfect strangers.
come on gents surprise us.

Rumour has it...three classics, the rest ROTD and Bananas numbers....but can we rely on what Gillan has gone to press with?

He did say they may play every track from ROTD,one night or another.(doubts)

The fact remains....Gillan likes to claim that Purple are a 'now' band and not a 'classic rock' band. They talk about nostalgia and yet most of their live sets are made up with the 'classic nostalgia' songs.
If they seriously want to be classed as a 'now' band then they should play ALL Morse era music in the main set, with just 2 or 3 'classic' for the encore.

Isn't that what he's saying Speedy?
And they should behave the way you discribed,as far as going out as who they are today....but there are way too many factors at stake for this to be a perfect world...mainly managers and promoters....could you imagine being the singer,or another band member and telling crooked promoter how it's going to be???
(they have influential power beyond imagination)

It's all about big money and media groups with their familiarity emphisis...and although it's too bad,it's what anyone in this buisness is up against....a brick wall.

Familiarity has destroyed the formatting of todays music scene...so underground they go,and btw, there are alot of popular bands today that have scrapped any wish to become a corporate success, and it's a successful trend, thats working for them...look at Yes...they've been happy lately, and it seems to be a semi private outing, but I did see them on the TV doing a smashing acoustic version of Roundabout last year.

DP needs to focus on new material and stick to just the greatest greatest hits...

They are going to play SOTW and HS and a few others...got to stick with the new material. If they don't think enough of ROTD to play most of the LP....why shoudl a casual fan buy it?

We may disagree on ROTD but the only way to reach a wider audicence than the several hundred purple geeks that haunt this board is to promote and play new material.

I hope Ian's not fibbing....otherwise MTV will sound quite hypocritical.

You'd think for a talented band like they are, they'd switch up the setlist every night....

Dream Theater does this. They have about 3 times the material rehearsed so they can change their setlist every night, and make sure to not play all the same songs twice when they revisit a city.

It is tough, especially in the US, to try new stuff when most people haven't heard anything since the 70's and want to hear all the classics.

Well, it's the same talk every time a new record is released:

"It's the best one so far, and we're gonna play all of it live. And some of the songs are destined to remain in the setlist".

But no, it's not gonna happen. It's just PR to boost the record sales. And it would be very strange if Gillan said "Well, the new one is half-good. I like the oldies better!"

A small percentage of the average audience consists of aficionados. The majority is there for the classics. Period.

Imagine that DP was a pretty new band. How many of the forum members would attend a show made up of songs from the Morse/Airey era only?

Well Gillan talks lot of bs these days:

"In fact, the interesting thing is that after this last tour, we played about 38 countries and to millions of people, and the average age of our audience is 18 years old!"

is the spotlight blocking your view IG???

When they are touring coutries in the former Soviet Block and Asia...they may well have a younger audience since not a lot of bands tour there.

Certainly 18 was not the experience in the states. Look...they HAVE to play SOTW and HS. In the states they should also play Hush and WFT...Europe...Black Night....Space Truckin

Other than those songs....most casual fans don't know the older stuff or the newer stuff...so let them here ROTD material. It's good...promote the LP....
