Bonus Tracks?
OK, I don't understand these. Is this simply a ploy to try to make people buy an album twice or is there more to it? Why? Why???

Re: Bonus Tracks?
Bonus tracks annoy the crap out of me. If they are good enough, they should go on the album. I see a few b-s--t justifications trotted out from time to time:
1. Different markets want different songs
A quick glance at this forum should dispel any arguments about different countries having different tastes. There is some argument for greatest hits albums to be different in different territories (for example, based on chart placings), but in that case songs are available elsewhere. I don't see Deep Purple fans who continue to buy new albums having wildly differing views.
2. Reward the "true" fans
I must say I don't mind bonus CDs/DVDs/tracks in the initial pressing of an album - the die hard fans will generally buy an album at or soon after release. "Tour editions" (a common ploy in Australia) are more annoying - die hard fans have already bought the album, and are then offered the opportunity to buy it again with some bonus material.
3. Make consumers in marginalised markets feel special.
See point one, above. I don't think particular fans need to be made to feel special because they are getting something unavailable to others, and I reject the view that it's somehow harder to be a music consumer in Australia or Japan - we all have record shops, Internet etc.
4. Create a collectable for the collectors market.
Put your hand up if you actually prefer to buy two copies of the same album with one different track.
5. Make music that is not really good enough available to fans.
I admit that I am often prepared to buy music simply because it features a member of DP. Some of it is pretty crappy (Angel Air, anyone?). However, asking fans to shell out for a Japanese and a European version of the album is a pisspoor way to go about it. There are other ways to get the music heard eg. b-sides for singles, downloads, rarity albums, mail order EPs, for those of us who are willing to pay for anything done by our favourite artists.
Sorry, rant over.

Re: Bonus Tracks?
They are making a song called MTV. I am assuming that it is going to be slagging none other than MTV. If that is the case, why does it have to be on the European version and not the American one?

Re: Bonus Tracks?
I don't get annoyed with bonus tracks. I get annoyed with overpriced cd:s. Therefore, I don't buy them.

Don't pay for the imports and wait for the US release and get all 12 songs.

Don't pay for the imports and wait for the US release and get all 10 songs.
Won´t the US release only have 12 songs on it?

Hopefully the US release will have BOTH bonus tracks because we have to wait longer for a release!!

Re: Bonus Tracks?
lol! i dont think so, i have rarely seen bonus tracks on US releases, for the most part, it's always Japan that gets lucky...
i dont know why they dont think of the US (as mentioned above) as a: 'marginalised market' and make us consumers feel special?? after all they must be selling the least here no?
even though i dont want to, guess this is what i will do: i'll go and buy the songs from the internet, maybe itunes, hopefully they'll have ALL the songs there and it's cheaper anyways than buying a CD...i'll miss the cover art though...
