Re: Deep Purple signs with Edel records...

It also has the Rasums, who are big in europe ! instead of complaining about being a small label maybe you guys can think about the positive things of it ! Being a small label and from all the artists i saw on their list, Deep Purple is by far the biggest one , in every aspect !

maybe Edel will use Purple to promote itself ! A smaller label will probably treat Purple with the respect they deserve ... a big one like EMI has too much big mainstream names to worry about ! And if Purple still exist and do great touring i guess Bruce isn´t such a bad manager, if he cut this deal it´s probably because it was the best for them , both financialy and musicaly ! I´m not saying it´s a good deal, i think it´s just too soon to complain about it ! I think that the Purple critisism is getting a bit out of control here ! Ok, you can complain about bad concerts, or unsuitable band members or about bad albums , that´s fair ! But let´s see ... first there are people complaining that Purple albums take too long to be made, then when the name is finally anounced ... the name is bad ... then they finally have a label of wich we haven´t even saw what they can do with Purple, the label sucks ... c´mon , isn´t this a bit too much ? I see much more pleasent talk about Deep Purple outside the die hard nucleous of fans ! or on other non Purple discussion forums ! I truly belive that the people who show less respect for the band and critisize absolutely everything are the die hard fans ! C´mon people , give Edel a break ! They already said they will be releasing the album worldwide ... so we have Deep Purple, realeasing a new album , wich already has a name and a label to release it worldwide (the states is another matter , but i don´t think that the states is a priority for Deep Purple) ! I think that things are looking very good on the Purple field !! emoticon Like i said in a recent post, i guess no matter what kind of stuff involves Deep Purple, it´ll always be critisized by it´s fans , so they better do what they feel like doing anyway ! emoticon

Why am I getting these images of Nuns, mountains, Christopher Plummer.... and this bl**dy song ringing in my ears?

Altogether now,

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright
You look happy to meet me

Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever

Strikes me, they will probably be about as useful as one!

What we will never know is whether DP left EMI because they wanted to or whether they were part of the general cull EMI announced.
They were allowed to get out, so they were able to put a positive spin on it.

This does not look good immediately, but who knows?

Hey, as long as there's nothing in the contract that says the band must make all live concert appearances or pose for all publicity shots wearing lederhosen + short pants, it's all good.

I think Gurra and Johnny Lucas has got the point here. A small label like Edel need Deep Purple more than the other way around.

That sounds good to me. Now I cannot wait to hear the record! May we have trust in a october release date?

I think it is a priority for them. They've been touring US now almost every year since 2001! And used American producer for Bananas. Tried to cut a single for that market - but all the attempts floppoed and finally - they hired an American guitarist emoticon

I don't quite understand your logic. So DP are doing Edel a favor and had their pick of labels to sign on with??? Seems to me that signing with a nobody label indicates that more prominant labels were not interested in DP.

Agree.

We will never know the exact circumstances under which they left EMI.

It seems too coincidental for me that:

EMI announced a cull of their artists.

DP leave EMI within the year of the announcement.

I think why it has been presented as a "good thing" is because they were allowed to leave with their dignity intact rather than being dumped. The relationship was too long and had been too good for it to be done acrimoniously on either side.

They were probably given plenty of notice and not released until they were sure they had somewhere to go.

But it will take a lot to convince me they were not proactively "released" or got rid of by EMI.

I am interested that this label is more central European focused. They had the official release party for their last album in Germany.

This may be the smart bit in this signing.
If the label can do the business in central Europe and further east then it does make sense.

If they do then they will certainly need a get-away car and a safe route over the Alps!!

Climb every mountain, search high and low
Follow every byway, every path you know.
Climb every mountain, ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream!

A dream that will need
all the love you can give,
Every day of your life
for as long as you live.

Climb every mountain, ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream!

You didn't know I was this much into "Singalong Sound of Music"!!!

It´s not a nobody label ! it´s a smaller one , still my point is, it´s better for Deep Purple to be the most strong name on a smaller label than to be a oldie but goldie third rate priority for a huge label !! And with Deep Purple on their catalogue, Edel might become a more famous and considered label ! It´s a win/win situation if both sides make their part correctly ! But my main point was that, first everyone was complaining about "oh no label , no label , etc etc" and now they finaly have one and even before the label can show what´s capable of, people start bashing it !
As for Deep Purple leaving EMI before being sacked ... if it´s true it only confirms my idea that they are better with a smaller label where they´ll be the biggest name and receive the proper treatment and respect ... wich they weren´t getting in EMI if they were about to be sacked !!

Rock On
