Re: ROTD vs Bananas?
It's nothing to do with the raw materials here, it's what happened to them, once they put it all in his hands.
I just feel the mix is too light and under done, very flat in areas, and just cheap.

Wow, I just love those light and under done mixes with those "very flat" moments. Now that you mention it, it is cheap. Sort of like "In Rock" production; but I love it!

Re: ROTD vs Bananas?
On "In Rock" they didn't try to turn all into sounding kind of like one big song, by mixing the songs to groove like a they all weigh the same.

Re: ROTD vs Bananas?
I'm not trying to turn it into another a discussion about the production, I took an opportunity, thats all.
(still a killer album, I just don't listen all the way through, I skip around instead, as I often do, once an album has been out for a while, and I've considered some adjustments to how I listen to it)

Re: ROTD vs Bananas?
Money Talks vs. House of Pain = Money Talks
Girls Like That vs. Sun Goes Down = Tie, like both but they too different to compare
Wrong Man vs. Haunted = Wrong Man
Rapture Of The Deep vs. Razzle Dazzle = Rapture of the Deep, although I think Razzle is very good
Clearly Quite Absurd vs. Silver Tongue = Tie, both fantastic
Don't Let Go vs. Walk on = Walk on
Back To Back vs. Picture of Innocence = Tie
Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye vs. I Got Your Number = I Got Your Number
MTV vs. Never a Word = Tie, neither song really gets me
Junkyard Blues vs. Bananas = Bananas
Before Time Began vs. Doing it Tonight = Doing it Tonight, like that groove!
Things I Never Said vs. Contact Lost = Things I Never Said, not a fair comparison being that Contact Lost is more of an outro than a song.
Bananas: 4
Rapture of the Deep: 4
Tie: 4
It's a tie! Still I feel that Bananas is a stronger album, with a clearer sound, more diversity in songs, less monotonous (sp?) and most importantly of all not as heavy metalesque as Rapture.

Re: ROTD vs Bananas?
good post
I shake it out a lil different
Money Talks vs. House of Pain = Money Talks
Girls Like That vs. Sun Goes Down = Sun Goes Down is one of my fav Bananas trax
Wrong Man vs. Haunted = Wrong Man
Rapture Of The Deep vs. Razzle Dazzle = Rapture of the Deep
Clearly Quite Absurd vs. Silver Tongue = Tie, both fantastic
Don't Let Go vs. Walk on = Don't Let Go
Back To Back vs. Picture of Innocence = Pictures
Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye vs. I Got Your Number = Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye
MTV vs. Never a Word = MTV
Junkyard Blues vs. Bananas = Tie...my favorite song from both CDs
Before Time Began vs. Doing it Tonight = Nefore Time Began...but its close
Things I Never Said vs. Contact Lost = Things I Never Said
Most are close but I give the edge track for tack as I do album to album to ROTD. To me its a stronger more cohesive record. But both are really good...in fact I need to listen to Bananas because I haven't in a while....miss some of those songs...

Re: ROTD vs Bananas?
Yesterday I put "Bananas" in my player after a long time and I have to say I was stunned... It feels so fresh and full of energy. The songwriting isn't as good as on "Purpendicular", but the joy, the melodies are simply great. It's strange for me they didn't put "Doing it Tonight" as a single. With proper promotion and a videoclip it could have been a hit!

Re: ROTD vs Bananas?
And here are my 5 cents...
Money Talks vs. House of Pain = Money Talks
Girls Like That vs. Sun Goes Down = SGD
Wrong Man vs. Haunted = None (0)
Rapture Of The Deep vs. Razzle Dazzle = ROTD, Razzle is an AOR silly song to me
Clearly Quite Absurd vs. Silver Tongue = Silver Tongue, definitely!
Don't Let Go vs. Walk on = Walk on
Back To Back vs. Picture of Innocence = POI, easy choice!
Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye vs. I Got Your Number = Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye
MTV vs. Never a Word = None (0), neither gets me either
Junkyard Blues vs. Bananas = Tie, both are interesting in their own way
Before Time Began vs. Doing it Tonight = Hm, none.
Things I Never Said vs. Contact Lost = Things I Never Said, "not a fair comparison being that Contact Lost is more of an outro than a song" - however Contact Lost is boring and overrated.
Bananas: 5
Rapture of the Deep: 6
Seems fair to me
