I am not sure what you are talking about

maybe you mean the fact that his voice is a bit strained??

Well, it is a bit strained throughout the whole album true, but I got used to it.

plus there is one song in which his strained voice isn't really a problem for me and CQA is this songemoticon

To me CQA is best or one of the best purple ballad ever, probably because of the lyrics as well - I took them very personally.

cheers

Well, technically, Gillan's voice on CQA is not strained at all. Maybe that's the point, his interpretation lacks of balls. A little monotony here.

Of course, mr. Wrong Man, your opinion about this song is totally respectable, even though I don't share it. It's just a matter of taste. emoticon

what you call monotony I call gentleness and delicateness

gillan's singing lacks balls?
naaah, this is not speed king. this is a contemplative song.

well, it is all a matter of taste as you said

but, i am not the only one who thinks this is one of the best purple songs

cheers

SIFLS (it sounds like syphilis emoticon ) is a great song, but i agree about the chorus, it ruined it all. The dark spirit of the song in the beggining is superb, but that mid tempo chorus has no connection with it. And that's why can not be considered a ballad.

Listening closely to CQA, I agree it's astonishing, musically a masterpice. But I'd have like a better performance from IG. Don't get me wrong, he did a nice job and I'm a hardcore fan of him, but there's a little something that I can't really express, that I miss in his vocal line.

I love the chorus !! emoticon It´s a brilliant one , i consider SIFLS one of the best Purple songs ever in every aspect ! It´s a fantastic song, well played, well produced, has a classic Purple feel and it has to be one of the most radio friendly songs they have !! That chorus got me instantly ... it´s so catchy and melodic and IMO it fits perfectly with the rest of the song ! I love CQA , the only thing it lacks is a more mid tempo chorus like the SIFLS , but on the other hand if they did it they would just be copying themselves emoticon Rock on

I don´t like it. Sorry.

For the record, SIFLS is much better was elected the best song in tne period 1994 - 2004 by a guitar mag in Brazil. THe votes were guitarists ! not readers.

I prefer SIFLS and Haunted (ok, the lyricas are not the best, but it sounds better to me).

As always, it is a matter of taste.

Cheers,

Reinaldo

CQA is one of my favourites from the album..so it's clearly quite outstanding! emoticon

Perhaps not the best ballad they've done, but among the absolute top3, imo. By the way, I've always had hard time to consider SIFLS as a ballad. But still, that's the best song of the Morse line-ups.
