Well, when I was 14-16 ballads were a good excuse for a slowdance with all the consequences so I never minded them! Love Conquers All is a great song though I can't hear anything similair to that short soundbyte of CQA that I heard - it kinda reminded me more of I'm a lover by Graham Bonnet.

Yep, same here. But I was damn very shy and girls never noticed me. Lucky me the passing of years works wonders in a man.

...ahem.

I must say CQA sounds far, far better than the crappy cabaret like Love Q A. Haunted is'nt much better, IMHO. CQA sounds a lot more inventive and inspired. A different league. And – to me – it's strange to compare songs like LQA with Blind Man or Soldier of Fortune at all.... emoticon emoticon

I thought it strange too. Maybe it was the mood I was in when I first listened. I'll try again.

I guess it stemmed from the fact that the melody is so gentle and Ian's singing is so delicate... but you see, it is not mushy either, as LCA or Haunted.

Plus the guitar and organ work is awesome, as it is throughout the whole album.

Actually it is one of the stronest points of ROTD LP - the instrumental parts - IMHO

"Walk On" comes to my mind but of course degustibus non est disputandum.

Best ballad?

Must be Soldier of Fortune, When A bLind Man Cries - with competition from Wasted Sunsets, maybe. If Child in Time is a ballad (well, guess not) it's no question...

(I don't like the chorus on SIFLS. No direction)

SIFLS (it sounds like syphilis emoticon ) is a great song, but i agree about the chorus, it ruined it all. The dark spirit of the song in the beggining is superb, but that mid tempo chorus has no connection with it. And that's why can not be considered a ballad.

Listening closely to CQA, I agree it's astonishing, musically a masterpice. But I'd have like a better performance from IG. Don't get me wrong, he did a nice job and I'm a hardcore fan of him, but there's a little something that I can't really express, that I miss in his vocal line.
