Locked In - A comment

Not a review but a short comment about what I thought the first times I heard it.

I heard this is regarded is the weakest effort by Powell&Co. so my expectations weren´t really high. But still although this is not to the usual high standards of Wishbone Ash it is still a high-quality album. I belive that the voice that is not Martin Turner´s belongs to Laurie Wisefield. He reminds me quite a lot of James Litherland(voice only)! Other than that I´d say there are more than decent songs on it. Rest In Peace, Moonshine, Trust In You and for me especially Say Goodbye are songs that raise above the rest.

That could be seen as a proof that even if they weren´t always up to their own standards they are still above most others!emoticon

Now while I rate most other albums I´ve heard very good, this will get the rating good, but it´s definitly not bad!

It's not bad at all in the same way that The Battle Rages On is not a bad Deep Purple album.

But compared with earlier, and later albums, it is certainly not their best!

There are some good tracks on it, notably Moonshine and Rest in Peace! But also a few average ones that are a bit too AOR and lack a distinctive Wishbone sound.

Certaily wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to get into Wishbone Ash. Compared to their previous album, this one is no where in the same league.

£8, a bit steep for a record fair IMHO.

I also saw John Barleycorn Must Die and I was going to buy it until I saw that it was £17. emoticon

Good choice! I got mine for 4 quid on CD from Amazon Marketplace!

I also saw John Barleycorn Must Die and I was going to buy it until I saw that it was £17.

Youd only be paying for the quality of this record! emoticon

Having listened to it a few times, I must say I like Moonshine and Rest In Peace as everyone else.

But the last track "Say Goodbye" definitly stands out as my personal favourite and I can´t understand why I just don´t find it anywhere mentioned in any review of that album. It has very soulful vocals from Martin Turner and brings a lot of feeling across. And the chorus is very, very catchy!

A classic Wishbone Ash track, even if the album overall falls down but that raises above the rest for me!

Is this rock ? It's a very strange product
compared to the other albums that was released from WA. When it come out I guess many finished to listen to Wishbone Ash. When I bought this album I become disapointed. I don't think the material is bad but it's
produced in a way that wasn't Wishbone. 30
years later I can see this record with other
eyes. This record shows how dynamic this group are. Finally you can't say it's a bad
album cause it has many track's that is very
strong. Two very strong ballads: Say Goodbuy and the the last one side one(I dont remember the name) . The other tracks are
not rock but they really have interesting
tunes. Soon after this album Wishbone was on the track again with New England.
So Locked In after all is an ok album .
But it is not rock.
