Re: Images And Words - A Review

Images and Words is a fantastic album. The only problem IMHO is, that it is soundwise a bit too much influenced by 80's hard rock/metal bands.
I prefer Awake with a better sound, although Pull me under and Metropolis are the ultimate DT classics. Kevin Moore was great in DT and he wrote some of the best stuff for them. Although Derek Sherinian and Jordan Ruddess are fantastic players, too, something in the songwriting has gone...

Okay, now after some time to get into it and extensive listening I have to say that Metropolis really grew on me. I like it better now than in the beginning and must say that this is really a great song!

As I mentioned, Awake and Live At The Marquee will be the next albums I´ll get. Awake will be very soon. Not sure if I´ll give you a full review(like this one) for it, but I´ll tell you what I think of it, though!emoticon

Awake is the first DT disc I bought, and will always have a special place in my collection. But if you get the chance, pick up the new one, Train Of Thought. It may be a bit more on the 'metal' side than what you may be used to, but it's one of the best cd's of their career and of '03.

Well, I usually don´t have any problems with metal as long as there´s still a hint of melody left. But I´m not always in the mood for it. But if, then I turn it to deafning, of course!emoticon

I also think Train of Thought is a great album, although the most controversial of their carrer. Seems to have split the fans right down the middle.

Frankly, I think your approach is the right one, go in order and see how the band progresses. Because there is a clear progression of change over the course of their albums. To go straight from I&W to TOT may be a bit confusing if you don't know how they got there.

And another good thing is that I have more time to look forward to latter and(hopefully) even better albums like Scenes From A Memory. If I´d bought that in the first place others could have been disappointing if I´d liked it so much.emoticon

A side note...I just bought tickets to see them in concert on April 1st! It's their "Evening with" format, which is two sets, and encores. No opening band. When I saw them the last time they did this, they played for over three hours!

Something like the Live Scenes from New York format, where they played the entire Scenes From A Memory in the first set, and a collection of the highlights of their back catalogue in the second and the encore(all lasting for three hours as well)?
