Re: Thin Lizzy - Rockpalast DVD

Yes, I got it last week.

Much as I hate to say it, giving my well known affection for Lizzy, I think it's a very substandard perfromance. Snowy White is terrible, really terrible which is surprising as he's a bloody good guitarist. He just didn't fit into Lizzy and this concert proves it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Wayward solos, tuning problems and his sound is crap. Worst song on the DVD is Black Rose, which is a shame. Gorham makes a bags of the fast part while Snowy White doesn't even attempt to play it.

The rest of the band play well enough without coming across as being on top of their game. Philo is a bit restrained in parts, Gorham is his usual self, but overall I have to say that it's a huge drop in quality from the Gorham/Robertson days. The track labelled as "Desaster" is actually an early version of "Angel Of Death".

From a collectors perspective it's a good DVD to have, but if you're expecting Live & Dangerous quality then you're likely to be in for one helluva disaapointment.

Would you say the also recently released on DVD Moore/Gorham Oz gig is better?

Sounds cool, looks like the one to go for then! I almost bought it the other week but I was put off by the short playing time (although you can't go wrong for £7.99!) and the fact that the Rockpalast DVD, which is much longer, was coming out...

Re: Thin Lizzy - Rockpalast DVD

I know the Sydney gig has a much shorter playing time than the Rockpalast one, but the difference is that for Sydney, the band is really !@#$ hot, Gary Moore is particularly brilliant. The Rockpalast show is a pale shadow of that gig, more like a band in serious decline.

Short, sharp, in yer face performance Vs a long, sub-par, going through the motions set. No comparison for me!

I hate to put anyone off any Lizzy product as everyone knows how close to the bone that band is for me personally, but that's what I, as a die-hard Lizzy fan feel about it.

I would love to see the Hitchin show released on DVD, it was scheduled last year along with a few others from the BBC archives (AC/DC, Police etc) but was delayed due to legal reasons.

I remember seeing the show on TV prior to seeing Lizzy at Glasgow Apollo in 83 and thought it was excellent.

I have it on VCD but the quality is not the best.

The Sun Goes down is available on one of those classic rock productions http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=156129&p=57&c=&g=72
hopefully they may bring the show out at some point.

Sykes era Lizzy was awesome (and only second to the Gorham/Robertson glory days), here's to hoping this does get released some day!

I actually have the Hitchin' show on DVD, courtesy of a good friend of mine. But I don't think it's an 'official' release. If you know what I mean emoticon
