Hurricane Party...An Objective View.
Ok...we have had it rammed down our throats often enough and tonight was the night Ian N and myself ran out of excuses and had to pacify McPurple and go and watch Hurricane Party.
We met up at the venue and then ambled down to the local Weatherspoons for a glass of Shandy, where McP introduced us to various members of the band and various McP groupies, male and female(i will say no more about that eh Dave )
After a drink we went into the venue which was basically a small hall above a pub. The place was choca with fans of all 3 bands crammed in.
Hurricane Party were good at what they do, which to my ears is play out and out hard rock, but Ian and myself agreed that they lack melody....and I found the music to be very samey. Technically they are good musicians and play with a lot of competence...but it just wasn,t for me.
I would go and see them again but it would have to be in a less crowded venue and I would say they are worth listening out for if you have nothing better to do on a Saturday night...Maybe I am getting too old for this style of music, the crowd age range was from 20 to 40 year olds, and there was a lot of head banging going on....I just go dizzy if I do that now...so I just tend to be a foot tapper.
If they are in your area go and see them.
Review over.

Re: Hurricane Party...An Objective View.
First thing to say was that we had an absolutely brilliant evening - great laugh
The hardcore fans, the band members, and their families we met were lovely people - particularly Sally, eh, Speedy?
Re the music, Speedy's said it well enough so you know where this is coming from.
In HP's defence
- their set intro is completely effin excellent
- it was a fairly short set
- the audience reaction was very good indeed
- they are very good at what they do
- the image/act is great
The case for the prosecution
- when I woke up this morning I honestly couldn't recall one single riff or lyric.
I've since listened to the cd and recognised some of the songs from the gig, but having taken the headphones off I now can't recall them.
I think that there's the root of it. They play hard rock very well, in the style of many great bands all mixed in together. It would be way too harsh to say that they're writing to a formula, but I do think its the material that's missing by just a touch. They've got some perfectly competent rock songs but there's insufficient individuality in there (for these ears).

The drummer's mum (sigh)

Re: Hurricane Party...An Objective View.
I reckon we're going to get dragged kicking and screaming to this this band again someday and that may not be a bad thing.
As for the Bacardi....you keep lining them up and i'll just keep drinking 'em.
The Drummers Mum (sigh) under the Speedy spell.
PS. How does it feel to be a record producer BTW.
