Re: Black Sabbath - Black Box review
I wasn't really clear on what the hell this Black Box was, but I see it's just all the Ozzy albums with a few extras.
No point in buying it really because I have all the albums and I'll abstain from buying anything that so woefully overlooks the superior post-Ozzy years!

Re: Black Sabbath - Black Box review
Well I'll probably buy this one eventually. I have the '96 Castle Remasters and they are a significant improvement over the Warner Bros. domestic versions from the 80's. However, they lyrics included are so off the mark they are hilarious!! According to Joe Siegler, these new remasters on the box set are vastly superior to the Castle versions.
I don't understand why the individual albums aren't just remastered instead of making Sabbath freaks (like me!!) fork over $100 for a box set.
I can't honestly agree that post Ozzy Sabbath is "better", but the Dio and Gillan years are ungodly to say the least!! For me, the Tony Martin years are pretty touch and go.

Re: Black Sabbath - Black Box review
I think the price is fair, I've seen it for around $80. If they came out individually I'd buy 7 of them anyway (No Technical Ecstasy), which would still be around $80.
There is talk of remastering the post Ozzy stuff. I'm hoping these come out individually as all I would want is Mob Rules and Heaven And Hell.

I figure that if one wants to wait long enough, there will be individual releases of the albums from Rhino. I can't imagine that the only way to get these remasters will always be by getting a box set.
Of course, the evil plan may be to eventually release individual remasters with the bonus tracks that everyone's missing from this box set.
Kinda sad, though. There's very little store promotion for the Black Box. If you aren't looking for it, you'll never know it exists.
I wish that SOMEBODY could take some action to get those crappy Dorchester Holdings and Power Sound (or whatever the heck they're called) Sabbath cd's off the market. They look like pirate CD's and they clog the Sabbath section of every store I go to. Who the heck is buying this garbage?

I picked it up yesterday at Borders. They had only one copy and it was still in the 'back' of the store, eventhough it was released on Tuesday.
I had a coupon and wound up getting it for $67.99. I'm very happy with it thus far - the sound is fantastic, way better than the original Warner cds and the Castle reissues.
There is a dvd included with Paranoid, Iron Man, Black Sabbath and Blue Suede Shoes.

Re: Black Sabbath - Black Box review
I think the band should release an album of B-sides, bonus tracks, and mastered outtakes. This coming from all recording that ranged from 1970 to the present day. The big problems with doing this would be using from material from the IRS years and Sharon Osbourne.

Re: Black Sabbath - Black Box review
I'm yet to hear some good opinions on the sonics as I'm afraid the remastering may suck. I expect lots of Noise Reduction and compression. In this case the old Vertigos will be the only option.

Re: Black Sabbath - Black Box review
I'm glad I was wrong on the mastering issue. The new CD's sound wonderful though the packaging is kinda substandart! Anyway, the Black Box is highy recommended. At least "Technical " sounds again like a Sabbath record, not a wierd EQ exersise!
