Yeah, and another thing is that he doesn't rock like RB.* Thrashing guitars on stage doesn't count IMO. And further, he wrote no catchy riffs and songs like RB. Or at least I don't recall any. The best stuff he did with Turner (again, another thing completely opposite to RB, no, sorry JLT! ), and the next album after JLT was fired/ left. And even if I used to listen to Malmsteen when I was in my teens, I don't remember a single solo by him. * There is a clear controversy in YM's statements as far as I can remember. He wanted to be seen as this sophisticated classical musician but at the same time, he said things like "nobody plays a guitar harder than me" - but again that nobody seemed to be very exclusive bunch of people (other fast shredders). nondisclosed_email@example.com (Rezi)Wed, 30 Mar 2005 06:08:27 +0000 Re: Yngwie / Blackmore / Hendrixhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147189,from=rss#post147189https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147189,from=rss#post147189quote:PaganinisViolin wrote: the difference is, blackmore has class, was the first in combining it with heavyrock succesfully and is very inventive. My thoughts exactly. I've heard Malmsteen butchering Speed King on a Purple tribute album and it's horrible to think that some people were suggesting he should have got an audition for the banjo position after Ritchie left. I would hate to have heard him attempting When A Blind Man Cries * *DISCLIAMER! This opinion is simply my opinion and if your opinion differs from my opinion then that's your opinion....in my opinion! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Celtic Legacy)Wed, 30 Mar 2005 01:09:48 +0000 Re: Yngwie / Blackmore / Hendrixhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147188,from=rss#post147188https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147188,from=rss#post147188he doesnt sound like blackmore. he does use the same techniques which blackmore introduced, played faster and more classical....but malmsteen pretends he invented them and he has said it so many times, people actually started believing him. the harmonic minor runs, and arpeggios. also composing in a classical way. its a different style he uses, but coming from the same corner as blackmore. the difference is, blackmore has class, was the first in combining it with heavyrock succesfully and is very inventive. malmsteen just wanks.nondisclosed_email@example.com (PaganinisViolin)Tue, 29 Mar 2005 20:44:07 +0000 Re: Yngwie / Blackmore / Hendrixhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147187,from=rss#post147187https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147187,from=rss#post147187I don't think there is anyone who thinks they sound alike in style. Its just that Yngwie puts on a similar showmanship side including the all black. He also plays so many Deep purple and rainbow numbers live and as covers on cd.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Stargazer1976)Tue, 29 Mar 2005 18:20:54 +0000 Re: Yngwie / Blackmore / Hendrixhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147186,from=rss#post147186https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147186,from=rss#post147186Can someone please tell me how exactly Malmsteen is supposed to be a Blackmore soundalike? I've been listening to him for quite a while now and I've never heard anything to convince me that he sounds like Blackmore in style. Blackmore can really give you goosebumps with a single note, whereas "single note" isn't in Malmsteen's repertoire. Also includes one Hendrix (Manic Depresion) and one Uli Roth (Sail of Charon)song. In the "special thanks" section, he doesn't thank Blackmore, but does thank Hendrix and Roth. Go figure. My favourite track from this album is "In The Dead of Night". nondisclosed_email@example.com (ByTor)Mon, 28 Mar 2005 23:05:42 +0000 Re: Yngwie / Blackmore / Hendrixhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147180,from=rss#post147180https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147180,from=rss#post147180I was mistaken about Odyssey. I thought he failed to thank Blackmore on that one. However i have Eclipse from 1990 and he doesn't on it. It also seems I must have read most of the interviews from the time period when he was avoiding Blackmore comments cause thats what i seem to have seen a lot of. A time where he mentions Hendrix and not Blackmore.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Stargazer1976)Mon, 28 Mar 2005 18:20:55 +0000 Re: Yngwie / Blackmore / Hendrixhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147179,from=rss#post147179https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147179,from=rss#post147179malmsteen first always talked about blackmore (he even told he dressed and acted like blackmore and went to school like that). then everybody started calling him a blackmore clone, so he started rebelling against that, sometimes disrespecting blackmore even....saying blackmore only played pentatonic scales and never harmonic minor untill mr malmsteen appeared, WHICH IS A LIE. anyone who listens to rainbow albums and is a musician knows they are filled with the harmonic minor AND 3 to 6 string arpeggios, especially live....blackmore even did those stuff in the late 60s live during wring that neck. the faces that he pulled in the 80s were blackmore faces, the clothes were blackmore clothes, certain poses and turning the guitar over on the knee and scratching it are blackmore etc....but then the public opinion made him change that and now he wears 3 rolex-s on each pulse and looks like a drag queen on coke he does give blackmore credit still but he is very carefull not to be painted down as a clone....but to a certain extent he is. the music style isnt, but almost the rest is.nondisclosed_email@example.com (PaganinisViolin)Mon, 28 Mar 2005 14:04:10 +0000 Re: Yngwie / Blackmore / Hendrixhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147178,from=rss#post147178https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147178,from=rss#post147178quote:Stargazer1976 wrote: Anyone notice how Yngwie always thanks Hendrix and never Blackmore in his inserts. He has since got over it and TMIB's name is pretty much on every thanks list since Odyssey. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Christos Gatzidis)Mon, 28 Mar 2005 13:49:07 +0000 Re: Yngwie / Blackmore / Hendrixhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147177,from=rss#post147177https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147177,from=rss#post147177Ah a coincidence, it just so happens I was recently looking at 2002 Attack's thank you's and it's opened right in front of me here....Yup Blackmore is thanked right after Hendrix and before Brian May. Just checked a couple (Odyssey and Facing The Animal) and they're both there, together with all the other regulars (Bach, Beethoven, Vivaldi, HP Lovecraft, ect). nondisclosed_email@example.com (Big J)Mon, 28 Mar 2005 07:12:41 +0000 Yngwie / Blackmore / Hendrixhttps://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147175,from=rss#post147175https://bdeeppurplefanforum.runboard.com/p147175,from=rss#post147175Anyone notice how Yngwie always thanks Hendrix and never Blackmore in his inserts.
