Richie Kotzen and Mr. Big
I went to the record store planning to buy Dream Theater's TRAIN OF THOUGHT, but discovered instead that there is a bargain sale of CDs, I only have a budget for "one" album, but with this bargain discs I could buy "four" albums instead of "one" and I may never have a chance to get this again, so I decide that the Dream Theater album will have to wait. I bought two Mr. Big, Paul McCartney and the Maxwell Implosion albums.
I did get Mr. Big's "Get Over It" and in this album the band have a new guitarist RICHIE KOTZEN who replaces PAUL GILBERT. As everyone knows Mr. Big is in the mold of Poison, Bon Jovi, Warrant and other 1980s popular metal bands, the lineup for this album is not bad comprising of bass guitar virtouso BILLY SHEEHAN, drummer PAT TORPEY, singer ERIC MARTIN who sometimes sounds like JLT and of course, the electrifying axe master RICHIE KOTZEN.
The opening track is "Electrified", hmmm good album title for the next Deep Purple studio album, don't you think? , a worthy opener, but the best track for me is "Hiding Place" which Kotzen did a very good job. The album is good enough for me and in fact more than good enough.
As I expected Richie Kotzen did a good job here, I have some of his solo albums, he have a solo career and have released many solo guitar albums, he is a fusion guitarist but could play heavy metal just like ringin' the bell. That's why Poison and Mr. Big hired him.
I also acquired Mr. Big's HEY MAN, it has guitarist PAUL GILBERT, I have yet finish listening to it, but it's heavier than GET OVER IT as for Paul Gilbert, he is a very good heavy metal guitarist also.
My other acquisitions are Paul McCartney's "Driving Rain" which I find boring and decided not to listen to the whole album, in contrast the Maxwell Implosion "Circle of Friends" is entertaining, I recommend this album, it's good if you want to relax and groove.

Re: Richie Kotzen and Mr. Big
You should try tracking down the Japanese version of Get Over It, it has a Burn cover as a bonus track where Billy Sheehan does Lord's hammond solo note for note on the bass! Great stuff.

Yeah, this is a studio track I am talking about, it's Japanese bonus track for Get Over It. I think it can be found without much hassle via Kazaa, though you didn't hear this from me!

Damn right I am a fan! Excellent command of the guitar and a superb soulful vocalist. I first got into his solo recordings five years ago and recently came across a live version of his song Remember and the goosebumps came back after hearing the emotions expressed by his vocal performance.
