Re: Favorite Eric Johnson Album - Pick 3
There are few rock guitarists that has release a handful studio albums as a solo and as a member of a band and made such an impact on the guitar music. Talk about Jimi Hendrix which only have three studio albums, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Uli Jon Roth and Eric Johnson.
They don't have a huge studio album catalog like Eric Clapton, Yngwie Malmsteen, Gary Moore, Jeff Beck and many others.
Eric Johnson have only 4 studio, I think "Seven Worlds" is a compilation of earlier tracks. Instrumental numbers like "Zap", "Cliffs of Dover", "Manhattan" and "Righteous" will make you think that he is not only a good guitarist but also a good writer. Guitar mags always says that he is the "King of Tones".

Re: Favorite Eric Johnson Album - Pick 3
Actually, "Seven Worlds" is what should have been Johnson's debut album, Steve. It was recorded sometime in the mid to late 70s, and I think the only song placed on a subsequent release was "Zap"...it could be looked at as a sort of a "lost demos recovered" type of thing, but it's well worth searching out for fans of this excellent guitarist - of which it would appear we don't have many of on this forum!
Looks like we gotta spread the word around, Steve! The rat ISN'T leaving town...

What Steve said! Or, get one of Eric Johnson's live ones! Now! Leave your homes and get to your nearest quality music outlet...(damn, where's Meadows with some of that subliminal messaging he's so adept at? )

Hey FatLarry, I recommend that you listen to Eric Johnson's "Tones", "Ah Via Musicom" or "Venus Isle", he was influenced and also a friend of Steve Morse, your guitar hero, I guess.

Re: Favorite Eric Johnson Album - Pick 3
I'm getting back into EJ big time and I was curious if he was ever discussed on this forum hence my post. I see "Long Path Meadow" listed in the results but that was a working title for "Venus Isle" in 1994 which also had "Travel One Hope" as an alternate title. So far I have only heard four of Johnson's albums but have more coming my way over the next few weeks. I will say "Venus Isle", "Ah Via Musicom" and Alien Love Child's "Live And Beyond" as my top three followed by "Tones" which I didn't take to as much as I would have thought. Looking forward to the other discs to arrive to see if any of them knock out any of the top three.

Re:
I've seen and met him numerous times...a few of those was getting to witness soundcheck and get walked through his signal chain (by him and it was never the same twice!). The man's tone is just amazing and despite changes to his rig over the years, proves that tone really is in the fingers.
