Astrisks in place of explatives

I think this is something new. I guess to keep Ramshackle from going out of control when he comes in here with his new user name.

But come on!!! The word "d-i-c-k"?

I know it's a slang term for the penis, but come on, we're all grownups, and I think we can handle it.

What's more, it happens to also be short for Richard and many people use it as their first name. There is nothing more annoying than trying to legitimately use the word as a proper noun in a serious post, only to have it post as ****. **** Clark, Charles ****ens, **** Tracy.

We're not children. I understand omitting the "sh" or "f" words, but people can just put the number "1" in place of the letter "i" and get around the "sh" word pretty easily, so in the end what's the point?

You've solved little, other than to make me feel as though I'm back in kindergarten again!!

P.S.-- How many more minutes do I have to play in the sandbox, before it's time to go back inside the little red school house and start coloring with my crayons again? emoticon

I know I'm being sort of sarcastic here, but I hope you see my point.

It's configurable. You can choose one of the following options in your Control Panel/Miscellaneous Settings :-

Override board profanity filter:

Follow board settings
Always on
Always off

Switching it to Always Off will remove censorship completely.

Do we have to do everything for you? Can't you do anything for yourself?

Sheeesh, the moment you stop acting like a kid, we'll stop treating you like one! emoticon

I find the Runboard expletive removal quite ok. There's generally no need to use expletives. I know for some nationalities, it's quite ipossible to understand. There's generally no reason for using a language you wouldn't use in a job application.

It's tiresome to read, and sometime I really wonder if intercourse is such a bad thing in some countries.

Sure, but I can understand people's frustration when names like 'Bruce Dickinson', or the England town of 'Scunthorpe', are censored.

But as Big J points out, it needn't be a problem if you don't want it to be!

Ahhh, hahh!! This I did not know. Runboard is apparently a lot more configurable now, then I remember it being last September.

EXCEPT!! We still can't convert the board clock into our own individual time zones, and that kind of annoys me. (I hate subtracting by 8. I mean...jeez, I gotta' use both hands....emoticon ) The things you make me go through. But I guess I'll persevere as always.

Would be helpful...if you're offering...I thank you in advance! emoticon

Yes, but I think independence and self-reliance is sooooo severely overrated!!

Life is so much easier when I just let others do things for me. Like I've said before, "Hard work...I could just sit there and watch (other people do) it all day long!!"

Okay, I see what you mean now. It's taken care of.

Thanks.

I agree with you, and I have no intentions of talking like I just got demoted to the sewer.

I merely meant that when the letters delta-ida-charlie-kilo are imbedded in the middle of a word like ****enson, that it seems quite petty to remove it. But now that I can configure it to see it, all is fine with the world as I know it, once more!

Yeah, I got the point a bit late, and I do understand what you mean.

I believe it will be a hard, if not impossible, task for the developers to add a profanity filter, that will work 100%. But the fact it's there, can *maybe* help some people to selfmoderate their use of language.
I just think it's a bad idea that you can turn it off, because that way the selfmoderation wont work.

I know I'm not a saint in this matter, though I do try to moderate my language. I learned it when I was sailing with an international crew. What you (not you personal) find quite innocent, or normal, is quite distburbing to others.
