What is "Board Time"?
Is BOARD TIME Greenwich Mean Time (England's local standard time-- regardless of daylight savings time), or does the BOARD TIME shift up one hour when England goes on daylight savings?

Re: What is "Board Time"?
Technically, I believe you should have left the board time as standard GMT year round. That way, the same standard is used regardless of who goes on daylight time and who doesn't. That's the way the National Weather Service in the U.S. time stamps their satellite photos: In California we're -8:00 hrs from GMT in the winter, and -7:00 hrs from GMT in the summer, because when we push up an hour for daylight time, we move up closer to GMT, but GMT stays the same.
I think the board should have kept its time GMT constant so as not to confuse people.
Just my own opinion, but do what you will.

I believe they use UTC.

Yes, I believe that is the more modern term, as compared to GMT.
I've also heard it called Zulu or "Z".
So for example, right now it's about 5:10pm California daylight time. That would be labeled as "0010Z". England Daylight time might be 1:10am, but the uncorrected Zulu is still 12:10am.
I know Niko is not going to change that minor detail just to please me, but I'm pretty anal when it comes to dates and times.

Re: What is "Board Time"?
UTC (Universal Time Coordinated) is based on TAI (International Atomic Time) with leap-seconds added or subtracted on a semi-regular basis (about once every 18 months) to keep it within +/- 0.9 seconds of UT1. UT1 is the "Greenwich Mean Time" historically used by astronomers and navigators but now not recommended because UTC has greater accuracy. UTC is currently 32 seconds ahead of TAI.
Nobody really wanted to know any of that, did they?

Re: What is "Board Time"?
Thanks, David, I will keep in mind those 32 seconds.
"Zulu" is the term the military use for GMT, especially when trying to coordinate things across several time zones. I suppose the name was deliberatey chosen to confuse people.

Re: What is "Board Time"?
I second that! I find discussions of time, the postions of the sun and moon in the sky at various latitudes/times of day to be quite fascinating. Okay, so not exactly good discussion material on a "first date", but when I have idle time and am purusing websites with time lapsed digital cameras, that stuff can be interesting.
Dave, why do you think your knowledge is useless? If I'm not mistaken, you were the one who told me what altitude the sky turns black for fighter pilots! Now that to me is fascinating, because it's info. that doesn't just appeal to the lowest common denominator.
What I guess I'm trying to say is...don't sell yourself so short. I find your tidbits to be quite useful! Especially if it pertains to something I'm into.
