Eyeless - the original Predator is one of my favourite fanstasy action films - It was never going to win Oscars but I love it. Have you got the DVD with the outtakes showing the utterly crappy monster they were supposed to film??? Looks like they spent at least £20 on the costume - even Dr Who had a bigger budget for that. Thank heavens they realised how ludicrous it was emoticon

Indeed I do have the DVD. have you ever seen a film called DNA, it was a bad predator rip-off that based its alien around the original costume. Based is basicaly a lie though, its very much Identicle.

+Im very annoyed that people seem to think that is was Jean Claud VanDam inside of the predator suit for both of the films. I cant remember the actors name but due to him being dead im sure hed be turning in his grave to hear people discrasing his name.

From what you say, I'm glad I've never seen DNA! emoticon

Jon McTiernan's commentary on that DVD just cracks me up! He is just SO like I didn't think he would be - but explains why things turned out the way they did.

Bill Duke's 'Mac' is just a wonderful character, and it makes the film so personal and emotional, not just another shoot-em-up.

I knew that the actor who portrayed the predator had died, and at a rather young age if I remember rightly emoticon ). I believe he was African, somewhere along the lines of a tall, strong Massai warrior (?) How could anyone believe JCvD was able to grab Dutch round the neck and slam him into the scenery!! emoticon

Indeed, I was disgusted when I heard people were saying this (JCVD). The guy who played the predator died around 35 I think, He was a giant and people that big dont tend to live that long sadly.

I hope they get some decent actors in for the predators in the movie though, kain Hodder (Jason Vorrhess - Friday the 13th) would be a good but unobviouse choice due to his grand size basicaly.

Once again in reply to another persons comment, or course there will be alot of CGI used in AvP just as there was ealier forms of CGI used in the original predator movies.

Both Predator and Alien 3 made good use of these effects and whilst the Alien affects in Alien and Aliens were good they were never able to made the aliens as nimble as they are ment to be. Granted Aliens Ressurection was generaly a bad film on the hole, but then again, all good sagas have the one wed rather forget... eg. halloween 3 the wtching hour, Friday the 13th part8 Jason Takes manhattan, matrix Re-loaded and Revolutions, the list is endless.

however I do belive that AvP will be an amazing film especialy since the guy who made res evil and is making res evil apocalypse is also making AvP.

I bet the Predator alien character will be CGI, at least in certain scenes. They (the filmmakers) may not even be happy with just one alien, the term less-is-more is unfortunately considered oldfashioned in the Hollywood of today, I'm afraid they'll be going for overkill on this one to satisfy the computer game generation.

There are five predators and thousands of aliens + a few unlucky people who happen to have guns.

also, based on a comment earlier on about teh aliens skull, if you remember rightly there was a predator on the ship that looked older than the rest (ie, it dreds were grey). It was that predator that had killed the alien, not the one that dany glover finnished off. The predator Dany killed of was in training and therefor was only a teen in predator terms which means it will not yet have killed an alien. Predators are sent to kill an Alien after training is completed to prove they are worthy of their transition into an Adult predator.

That could very well be the case, Eyeless. I don't recall the film going into detail like you have here, but you could be quite correct. I got the sense that they had been visiting here (Earth) since the dawn of man - possibly neanderthal times, or even before, I'm not an anthropologist - and engaging man in the Predator's reason for living - the hunt! Or as Ian Gillan once put it, "It's not the kill - it's the thrill of the chase" (different subtext, though! emoticon )
That was brought home by the older Predator presenting Glover with that ancient pistol, evidently a trophy from an earlier hunt.
I got the sense that the predators actually have been visiting - in the context of the story, now - for a millenia, and seem to like hunting humans - as Ritchie would put it (hey, maybe we have a theme song for the "Alien vs. Predator film!)as man has evolved into a smarter form of prey through the centuries. At least in the telling of the stories in the movies, the Predators are bigger, stronger, faster and better equipped - but man has won out both times with greater cunning and guile. So in the context of the stories, they may not like us (mankind) any more than they "like" any other of their prey - but we just may have earned their respect.
