Re: Member Introduction
Hi All
I'm a newbie, i'm not the biggest DP fan, but early Whitesnake (pre hair metal)i love.
But my main interest is Micky' & Bernie' career, i don't like the word "expert" but i guess i'm pretty close, i have an extensive collection of their stuff.
I will endeavour to answer any question's on the subject.
I have also posted a discography of their "joint" projects.

Re: Member Introduction
Hi there,
My first Purple encounter was in the late seventies: 24 Carat Purple of course! Shortly after that my friend and I bought Made in Japan. I can still remember the feeling when I heared the organ intro to Lazy: mindblowing.
Made in Japan was followed by Made in Europe. What was that? the singer sounded different, but good! I remember that "Baby, baby, baby...., want you to come on home" in Mistreated made a very fierce impression on me. What a voice!
After all, during the years I bought all the albums I could get: Mark I, II, III, IV and so on. The live albums I like the most. The early Mark II live albums I like the best.
I'm not that interested in questions like is Ritchie Blackmore or Steve Morse the best guitarist ever for Deep Purple. Sure, I have my favourite albums and yes, there are (a few)Purple albums I don't like that much. As long as it is Purple I can dig it. In 5 decades of music not every album can be a absolute great one, right or not? I also have a few albums by Whitesnake and Gillan.
My daughters don't care for Purple: it is stone age music in their opinion. Only Smoke on the water they like, so they can sing along with the chorus.
My wife thinks I'm mad: "35 versions of the song Smoke on the water: isn't one enough?"
When I don't listen to Deep Purple I listen to my favourite guitarist: Jan Akkerman from the Netherlands. He played in Focus some thirty years ago. Remeber the song Hocus Pocus? Well that's him on the guitar. He also played on some Forcefield albums, together with Cozy Powell and Ray Fenwick. They did a version of Black night en Strange kind of woman. He's still rocking today. What a player!
Well, that's it for now.

Re: Member Introduction
Hello all,
My name is Paul and I live in a small place in the Netherlands. Hit by the virus during my high school period in 1980 when I was 15 years old. First LP was On stage which I found (and still do) absolutely brilliant. First gig was Rainbow during their Down to Earth tour. After that I have missed only one DP gig in holland which appeared to be the last one with Richie in our country. But due to a carreer as seaman for eight years have seen some gigs abroad to compensate. Nowadays still enjoy the band very much and since I have seen them in all kinds of ways would love to see or listen to an unplugged session once. About Blackmore"s night, I can be clear, I have bought the Castles and Dreams DVD yesterday and think it's a waist of money and time. Very disapointing to see such a brilliant guitar player end like this. However if he is happy....... , In my oppinion we can be happy with Steve. (although I still prefare DP with Richie !!)
OK thats about it.
Tks/Brgds,
Sweet Lucy
