Damn cat chews on everything...help!!
Yea, I know...it's a purple forum, but my furniture is under attack, and I'm out of ideas.
I have a 3 1/2 year old tabby female who I suspect was weaned off her mother too young, and is blind on top of that.
She has a sucking, chewing fixation, and literally chews holes in everything! The sofa, pillows, chairs, area rugs, towels, shower curtains, toilet seat covers. It really doesn't matter. If it's cloth or material, it's fair game in her mind. An equal opportunity feline you might say.
I bought this product from the pet store called "Bitter Apple". It's supposed to deter dogs or cats from chewing, either by spraying on the area you don't want them near, or spraying in their mouth as punishment, if caught in the act.
This stuff is mainly water, and a 20% solution of Isopropanol. You'd think she'd hate it, yet she'll lick it off my fingers. So clearly, no solution there!
Also got one of those satellite dishes (Elizabethian Collars) to put around her neck, because she was chewing her fur off her back and her tail. Thought that might keep her from chewing all else, but she just cocks her head to the side and can still reach and chew from the edge of the collar!
What determination she has to piss off the b3burner, and she's winning the war. She sits tall and proud, while my furniture sits wrapped in duct tape. I'm embarrassed to have guests over the house. It all looks like !@#$.
Short of locking her in any small room for hours on end, which doesn't seem fair to her, I'm not sure how else to handle this. Any ideas from animal behaviorists out there?

This is the NON-PURPLE forum, which means your cat and anything other than Purple is welcome here (as long as your cat listens to Purple, that is )
I have 2 outdoor cats, so I can somewhat connect with you.
Obviously, you need to get her something to chew on....other than furniture and pieces of your house.
I'd try toys and catnip and mabye even get another kitty. Mabye buy a nipple or something that she can fixate her obsession on?

Don't you mean "shoot that cat", Speedy ? No, only kidding, I love cats and have two myself. They're outdoors a lot and the nicest cats in the world - I know this doesn't help B3burner's problem of course. Perhaps you could have a water pistol ready at hand or introduce a companion for it, although that solution might be too late when it's no longer a kitten but it might calm it down or ask a store what to get it, toys. Maybe a vet can tell you more if it has some sort of internal problem, it sounds like it. A shelter could be the last resort, they may be able to find it a place, a farm or something.

Get an old towel, make a knot in the middle, put it in the freezer overnight and then give it to her in the morning, chew toys generally don't work because they want something really hard to bite on.

Throw out your furniture. You need a cat more than you need it.

Put the cat in the microwave and then sue the microwave manufacturer.
