Joe Satriani talks about Deep Purple

Hi guys,

I did an interview with both Joe Satriani and Steve Vai last week!

Well, I finally got round to transcribing the Satriani interview!

Here it is!

Hope its alright. He does mention Deep Purple in there too!

The Vai one will hopefully be up in the next couple of days!

Cheers,
Rahul

So too bad Joe was not able to stay with them, it would have been extraordinary.

I saw them in Sarrebruck and Villingen, only 8 months after Ritchie's shows and althought my heart was still for Blackmore, I had to admit it was not bad at all...

Thanks Rahul! Great reading.

Of particular interest I noticed Joe's comments about leaving DP. Even if he enjoyed the time very much it seems from your interview that he left because he wanted to do other things than become a permanent member of a band. Up til now I've understood it was because of "contractual reasons", but here it didn't seem so.

I like to hear this. It tells me that a player like Satch make his own descissions, and not are orded to do this do that from the record company. I have nothing but respect for his descission.

His comments on Steve Morse replacing him is also words of a true gentleman.
Well done, Rahul! emoticon

Thanks for the kind words, guys!

Satch's comments about Purple were interesting. I thought it was contracts too, which he says it was, but then he says it didn't feel right anyway.

However, if it wasn't for contracts, who knows? Maybe he would have joined for a studio album at least?

Guess we'll never quite know for sure, but I could not leave without him explaining his decision not to join! emoticon

He had so much praise for the guys though, which was nice to hear. He really loved playing with them!

Just started transcibing the Vai one! Looks like it will be up early next week! Taking longer than I hoped, due to other work commitments! emoticon

Having followed Satchs career since the beginning, I know it wasnt in Joe's interest to become a fulltime member.
I am thankful that Joe was in the band and would also suggest that Joe do a couple songs with Steve Morse on the new DP album emoticon

Nice article, Rahul emoticon
