He sings Glenn Hughes parts as this "You Know we'll never learn, we could not even cry" He also cocks up the rest of the song .I think Joe is a great singer but no so great when it comes to singing Purple classics !
Not that I think he was perfect but at least he had a courage to do tracks from each line up unlike Gillan who is butchering his own classics most of the time and hever had balls to do MK3 tune. These days anyway, Turner's pretty good with Coverdale's tunes as HTP shows and Undecover 2 CD show.
Same old song again it´s completely diferent for each one of them ! Ian Gillan is the legenday MK2 singer, considered the best Deep Purple line up ... why should he sing stuff after him ? Ofcourse Joe had to sing older stuff ... can you imagine Deep Purple touring and playing S&M live only ? Ian Gillan IS the older stuff , MK3 and even more MK4 are great line ups , but i don´t think Gillan has to sing any of those songs ! I probably wouldn´t if i was in his place !
Rock On

Agreed!! No need to sing someone else's inferior stuff!!
I don't know about that 'inferior'. Abandon and Bananas are by far the worst DP albums and yet they have played songs off those albums live.
But I agree: I can fully understand IG doesn't want to play tracks from Coverdale or Turner periods.

Re: Joe Lynn Turner performing the classics
i did talk about this before on this forum but still i can't understand gillan's attitude towards jlt and mkIII stuff. dp is not like an other rock band, dp is dp! i mean whoever plays in dp, it is dp anyway. some think that don airey is not as good as j.lord but still dp is rockin' out there. so nothing really changes.
btw, i think jlt has a great voice for hard music. for example i really adore all the singers who have sang in dp, but somehow jlt's voice really touches my heart in a way! coming to classic dp tracks, he is definitely not worse than coverdale, hughes, or late gillan(although i'm feeling a kinda progress in his singing! it's like he upgraded the singing machine in his body after mid 90s! ) he also did great covers of dp classics with the htp. i don't even get why he is hated this much...

That particula propensity of Gillan really irks me, since he had no problem slaughter Black Sabbath classics back in 1983.
That said, "Born Again" was a cool album imo!

I'll have to disagree with that, I thought Gillan's take on the 'old' Sabbath classics was great. Certainly better than Dio's, and I personally prefer them to Ozzy's too.

But that just asserts the principle mentioned earlier. Gillan came AFTER Ozzy and Dio and therefore played their classic songs, unlike his tenor with DP when he preceded Coverdale, Hughes, and Turner and had enough classics from his own era to perform.
Having said that, I'm a fan of Gillan's performance of some of the older Ozzy and Dio stuff.

Yup, and Ozzy also doesn´t ever sing anything by Dio, Gillan, Hughes and Martin(and that´s an awful lot of material compared to the four albums Gillan isn´t on since he became part of the band in 1969).

My opinion, but the Dio/Gillan Sabbath material blows away at least 40% of the Ozzy stuff.
Let's face it: Ozzy couldn't sing practically ANY of the DIo or Gillan material. he has a HORRIBLE time singing his own.
Although I love classic Ian Gillan (and think Hughes, JLT and COverdale are great as well), I feel that Ronnie James Dio is overall the best singer in hard rock/rock/metal ever.
I imagine Ozzy cringed hearing Dio do "N.I.B." which was an Iommi/Butler composition that should have been Dio's all the time.
Again, my opinion.
Somebody told me he went to see Ian do Sabbath in concert, and the band did versions of "Rock 'N" Roll Doctor" and "Junior's Eyes"!!! THAT would have been a show!!!

I think - if I remember correctly - "Rock 'n Roll Doctor" was a part of Sabbath's "Born Again" tour setlist from the band's first gig. I'm not positive if it stayed in 'til the end or not. Didn't know they ever did "Junior's Eyes" live. That probably would've been great, especially if the band played it on a night that Gillan was "on". I can think of lots of other tracks from Sabbath's back catalogue I would've preferred the band play while Gillan was Sabbath's vocalist -anything from either "Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath" or "Sabbotage" would've been more than welcomed!

Especially Sabotage...imagine "Symptom...", "Hole in the Sky" or even BETTER: "The Writ"!!!
You really came up with some ideas there! I can just hear Ian screeching to his heart's content to the crazy verses of The Writ.
I felt that Ozzy's peaked on "Sabotage" and began going to monotone-ville shortly after.
