Joe Turner is a world class singer. If you like his voice or not! I agree that compared to Gillan or Dio he's less, but who isn't! Stop bashing, he's done more than enough that's very good!!!

My thoughts exactly! Though I enjoy him more the Dio or Gillan recently due to his much stronger output in the 90's (ever tried to play Fire on the Moon or Holy Man next to Abandon or Angry Machines?) but then again I often go thru a Dio, Bonnet, Coverdale or Gillan phase as well! emoticon

JLT is the one of the Worst if not THE worst Hard Rock Singer of All Time. He was lucky to be in Rainbow and it was probably the worst decision Deep Purple ever made to allow his drivel onto a Deep Purple Album. Sure the guy had a couple good songs but if you count all the songs he destroyed you would run out of fingers and toes and then you better get the calculator out. McCoy, it is a free country and now that Reagan is gone it is even more free. As a member of the ACLU I stand proud to voice my freedom of speech and first amendment rights. emoticon

That's really a bit harsh Satch. Anyone who can hold his own on an album sharing vocals with Glenn Hughes is a singer of merit. I'll admit his prancing around was annoying, but on stage he's no more annoying than Robert Plant is. 3rd best frontman my arse. I can't imagine anyone singing songs like I Surrender and Magic any better. He certainly had more of a positive impact than Ritchie Blackmore did on much of Rainbow's 80s output. At least he's trying.

Real John, I am inclined to agree that JLT gets too much abuse and there have been times when I joined in the fray. I liked some of his Rainbow stuff but his DP stuff irritates me and I just don't listen to it. However, he may have brought some of the abuse on himself. By referring to Gillan's stuff as "drivel" he really upset a lot of DP fans who, by a large majority, prefer Gillan as lead singer. Also, Steve Morse and sometimes even Ritchie get plenty of abuse but not to the extent where people are wanting to physically bash them. I don't think Joe hesitates to say what he thinks during interviews and if we say we don't like him, so what? Forums are for expressing opinions and that is a big part of freedom not soviet era repression.

Welcome back RJM. I hope you'll continue to post, as it's good to have s counter to all the anti-JLT stuff here. I think the JLT-bashing has gone too far as well. I admit to having carried out some mild bashing before, but some of the recent comments are beyond the pale. Joe's recent work is of a high calibre and entitles him to some respect here.

emoticon Sandbagger. There are limits you know. emoticon
I disliked JLT in Rainbow, his voice irritated me, some other singers have the same effect.I disliked JLT in Deep Purple for the same reason. I disliked him on stage during the HTP concerts, I just felt he looked rather silly prancing around like Robbie Williams and I disliked JLT when I met him after the same concert, the guy is such a poser.
Now, if I cannot post that view what should I say? emoticon

I dunno what Reagan's passing have to do with America being a freer country. Do you know that lots of americans emigrate to Moscow these days fleeing the political correctness crap in search of freedom (mostly sexual I guess emoticon )? They even have their own newspaper "Exile" here and believe me, Michael Moore looks like George Bush's fan club member compared to them! emoticon
Now as JLT being the worst hard rock singer ever - well, I guess people like Blackmore, Malmsteen, Daisley, Kotsev, Hughes don't know !@#$ about hard rock since they invited Joe to do the job a few times! In fact Joe is the only guy who received a phone call from Ritchie TWICE (now don't mention Gillan here since we all know it was all about $$$) and if you follow the recent rumours, the third time can be just around the corner! emoticon
