Whoever keeps starting these JLT Threads take them somewhere else, his drivel is not wanted here.

Re: JLT and commercials...

I like Dan McCafferty's voice. I also like Bon Scott's and Marc Storace's voices. While not pure singers in the sense that Gillan used to be, they crank out some real good stuff. Always a bit raw, they fit their music perfectly. Very consistant. AC/DC has never been the same since Bon assumed room temperature. I like what Johnson has done, but it is just a bit over the top most of the time.

Getting to JLT, I think that his voice is quite suited to this sort of thing. While we may not have liked him in Purple, the man can sing pretty well. Glenn Hughes seems to think so, anyway. Give the man his due. He goes out, gives a solid performance every time. While I like Gillan's voice better, he can't match JLT for consistancy over the last twenty plus years. JLT sounds today pretty much as he sounded in Rainbow. I wish Gillan sounded pretty much today like he did in MKIIa.

Like him or not, I would be nice to see the bashing stop, at least on the vocal part. I am sure many of us wouldn't mind trading places with him. Now if he would just shut the f... up, things would be much better for him.

Shudder...tremble...
ne-ne-ne-ne...ne-ne-ne-ne..dun-dun...dun-dun-dun...*

(Rod Serling voice over as a poor old horse tumbles through the void of space)

"Picture if you will, an ordinary horse, in all appearances. But with one distinct difference. He dreams he's the epitome of a rock vocalist. He's always had a dream to be on stage singing with his guitar idol, Ritchie Blackmore...now, he's about to change places with a squealer... sorry, singer, he's slandered mercilessly for years now. He'll wake up in a dressing room being fitted with a nice poofy wig and some tight spandex trousers...he's about to switch places with the one he's denigrated so much all these years...MrEd45 is about to take a trip to the..Twilight Zone." emoticon

Shudder...tremble...shudder... emoticon

*I forgot to mention - that's the "Twilight Zone" theme. At least it is when I do it! emoticon

emoticon emoticon emoticon Good stuff! emoticon
MrEd you would make a great writer or consultant for vintage television nostalgia, you have the skills for it.
-----------------------

That remark about Gillan not being as consistant as JLT can be explained quite easily,he could be if it was what he desired
but that would be as one dimentional as JLT
himself and then we would have a big problem. emoticon

Nah. My stuff would probably go the way of other unappreciated comedy classics like "When Things Were Rotten" + "Police Squad", for just two examples. emoticon

"When Things Were Rotten" - one the few Mel Brooks forays into series television...a spoof of the Robin Hood legend, aired during the mid-'70s. Starred Dick Gautier ('Hymie the Robot' from "Get Smart" as Robin Hood.) Absolutely hilarious!

Just seems like a good place to bring up the Bud Lite "Real Men of Genius/ Real American Heroes" ad campaign again.
Those titles + lyrics are freakin' hilarious! And I gotta admit, the guy doing the vocals sounds just like TLSM. Though it's actually one of the former lead singers of Survivor.
