And I know, that you know, that if you're programming, it makes a lot of sence to use an American keyboard layout. I did that for years, but it ended, when I had to use computers daily, with a danish keyboard layout.

No, I didn't know that! emoticon

I have every key I need on a UK keyboard, it's just the locations of some symbols that have changed from the US layout.

I hadn't considered other European languages, but I guess they still have the same important symbols such as $ \ / etc., don't they?

I was referring to the location of the keys. I don̈́'t know the uk keyboard, but on the danish, \ is a double keystroke, / is located on <Shift>+<7>, [,{,| etc are all combinations of <Alt>+<numeric key, but not on numeric keypad>. All very annoying. Asterix is a shift command, and so is question mark.

I need the shift key for some of those symbols. I've never thought of it as a problem, it's just what I've got used to.

Well, either I have to move my right hand from the mouse to the keyboard, or I have to make a finger-stretching, to get [alt]+[9] to close a "[" with an "]".
Same goes for "{}" which is on 7 and 9. So one hand typing is difficult. Something I learned to do with the US keyboard, far more convienient, than our danish. It's only a matter of habbit, I've got used to the DK-keyboard layout, and I would have big problems (for a little while) if I went back to US keyboard.

Isn't it altGr for [], { and }? Same for the backslash - at least on mine. And I have the € and the $ sign... and, compared to a US keyboard, y and z are switched around.

I thought it was <AltGr>, but when I tested it could also be done with <alt>. The backslash however is the <AltGr>.

The switching around y and z, I believe is a special German layout. In Denmark (and many other contries), we've adopted the QWERTY system, except for
 a) modern/weird keyboards
 b) special Characters.

Yes, we have the Qwertz, system. I remember having read something about it´s origin as well, I might dig that out somewhere. Also we have the ÄÖÜ signs and the sharp ß in the numbers bar.
