the problem is that the banter spreads over many pages, which take a long time to upload (unlike THS forums, where dozens of replies could fit in one page). each reply takes up loads of room on the screen.

RitchiesHair is right. If a thread has covered a topic in depth and ain't goin' any further, fair enough, chuck in a joke or have a laugh with whoever else is online at the time.
But it irritates when the topic is not a 'trivial' one, or when someone's asking for help or advice or information, and it immediately degenerates into an unending piddle contest.
