Adjusting "post times"

Is there anyway to alter the "forum clock" in my control panal, so that the post times are converted to my individual timezone, instead of reading in Greenwich Mean Time?

I get tired of counting back 8 hours on my fingers everytime I want to convert what I see, to California time.

Besides, my "minus eight" tables were always my worst in grade school you know!!!

Not sure about that John, but I think the whole Akheva board works on the same clock reference - all I know is that when the forum started I was always one hour ahead of what was being posted. Since the end of British Summer Time, we here in Grande Bretagne are seeing posts in 'real time' for once. As the song says, "Don't have the time of day..." emoticon

We can adjust that. Maybe we should do a poll:"What timezone do you have" and we fit it to the most common one!emoticon

Leave it be Milan!! emoticon On the 'old' board us Euros had to put up with being 6 hours behind (US time) which really screwed up the old brain cells. This is much better because - Greenwich Mean Time is IT!!

I have to agree with nighthawk on this one.

I was thinking each user could adjust it to his/her own control panel. If everyone has to be the same, then I agree that GMT is the best. That is "universal coordinate standard time". Even if some parts of the world observe daylight savings, the GMT will always stay the same.

Only if the user can adjust it to his/her own liking, would my idea make any sense at all.

The old board was real confusing. I remember when I first posted back in Oct. 2002, the post time was about +6 or +7 hrs. of California time. Then oddly enough, it was adjusted around winter of 2003, and it changed to like +1 or +2 of California. And unless THS suddenly moved their headquarters to Denver, Colorado; the +1 never made sense to me.

Again, if there's no easy way for individual customizations, then let sleeping dogs lie.

I don't remember meeting Gillan. But if he thinks we met, that's ok with me. emoticon

Nighthawk, the reason for this is that GMT is the time it would be in Greenwich England (0-degrees longitude), IF England were to observe standard time all year long. Since, you advance to BST, you're an hour ahead of GMT, until you go back to standard in the fall.

It's the same out here in California. In the winter, we're -8 hrs of GMT, but in the spring, we move our clocks ahead, so then we're only -7 of GMT. (GMT stayed the same, but California moved up by one hour).

Not that any of this has anything to do with Deep Purple, but thought you might be interested.

Mr. Ed,

The Gillian reference in my quote, was from the interview segment of the Perhelion DVD.

Gillian is lementing bad modern inventions, and is basically poking fun at how hard it is to remove the shrink wrap from a CD.

And I can also add that even if you're lucky enough to get the shrink wrap off in a decent amount of time, that sticky little reflective square that seals the lid, will have you working another couple of minutes, at least.

It's enough to drive a sane person into a straight jacket. That's why I try to either buy all my CD's used, or I pay someone to open my new CD's for me.

Maybe I'm just bizarre, John, but if it took me any longer than two minutes to successfully open a new cd, I'd voluntarily deliver myself to the nearest glue factory. emoticon

Mr. Ed,

I smell a business proposition in the making!

If you're that good at opening new CD's, maybe I can hire you as my official "CD Opener".

Now I caution you, the work is seasonal only, as I'm too damned cheap to buy my own, and I only ask for them around Christmas time.

If you can make it out to San Francisco by Dec. 25th, I'll pay you handsomely to open my copy of "Bananas" that my girlfriend shall have stuffed in my stocking with care.

Otherwise, I'll wind up doing what I always do: Cut straight through the CD cover with a serrated steak knife, shattering the plastic, tearing out the jacket through wedges of broken plastic, and pulling the CD through what's left of the case!

Seriously, I'm not that bad, but they are quite difficult for me to open. Usually about 15 minutes.
