Stallion Twister a Blackmore Tribute review
First off I'd like to say this;
I'm no guitar player (accept for a few lick's)
but I grew up listening to my brother who is an advanced player and every bit as much of a Blackmore fan as anyone.
Brian Stephen(ritchies strat)has some serious Blackmore style chops and that's a fact.
He recently went out of his way to send me a gift in the
form of his tribute to Blackmore.(very nice of him)
I have never been able to get along with and argue with anyone at the same time this well in my life, which say's alot about our resident Morse basher's integrity.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I will now attempt a review of his tape with backing
music done very well(kereoke I think)I will score each song
between a 1 and a 5 and overall tape the same 1 out of 5
-----------------------------------------------------------
Highway Star-guitar/as good as anyone I've heard do it
vocals/good enough to pass, not much else to say here./2.5
Strange Kind Of Woman-guitar/great mix of live and studio I like how he mixes the two very well done.
vocals/again good enough to pass,including bridge/2.5
I surrender-guitar/now were talking!!!killer
vocal's not too bad for a Jersey boy considering JLT is from there too./3.5
Since You Been Gone-guitar/cool the way he play's around with it.
vocal's/supurb Graham impression very stunning,by this time
I am rocking,uncanny performance./5
Lazy-guitar/very good for a hard song to play from what I gather.
vocal's/good enough to pass./2.5
Smoke On The Water-guitar/another decent mix of studio and
live versons./3.5
Man On The Silver Mountain-guitar/I think he can do better here but still not bad at all, with a decent solo.
vocal's/good enough to pass for a cover of Dio./2
Rainbow Eyes-guitar/very well done and good tone too.
vocal's/this is quite a challenge but
somehow it work's./2.5
AC/DC-You Shook Me-good enough to pass/2
Highway To Hell-a little messy but still fun/2
Kill The King-guitar/not bad for a first take ,considering
the complexity of the song.
vocal's/could be better but again were talkin Dio here/2.5
Mistreated-guitar/I hear an etempt at the cello effect,
could be better but still pretty good/solo-not to my liking but that's just my opinion.
vocal's/good enough to pass but no match for Coverdale
which I don't think should be such a streach./3
Wolf To The Moon-guitar/awesome,very good at pulling off what to me seem's imposible, how do you do it?
classical part could have been better but cosidering how
precise the whole song is that's a small flaw-WOW!!very hot
vocal's/again,how the hell do you do that, excellent tone
uncanny impression of Doogie White,SMOKIN.Unbelievable for a 1st take/5
Stargazer-guitar/very good again for a 1st take, moves freely between slide and fingers/solo remarkable jammin
for such an intimidating position to be in-killer
vocal's/good enough to pass for again what is an intimidating position to be in/4.5
Catch The Rainbow-guitar/very good but somehow a little forced but it get's better as it goes/good solo
overall, pretty much note for note here.
vocal's/could be better,sound's a tad forced here/3
Over The Rainbow-slightly surreal acoustic noodling/2
Memmingen-not bad, very good tone and pretty close to the original/2.5
Overall rating/4
-----------------------------------------------------------
You have to understand my rating system
it's the same way I evaluate my employees at work.
Between a 1 and a 5/a four would be consisidered very good.
In fact damn good
cause a 3 is considered above average.
So if you can handle my rating system you should be happy.
Hey you dersreve a substantial raise!

Re: Stallion Twister a Blackmore Tribute review
Thanks Larry. I needed an unbiased view and you were too kind indeed.

Wouldn't mind listening to this either if someone manages to upload them.

I think that would be great. I just don't have the time or resources to do it, other wise i would have. Actually I probably could mix it direct from my 8-track to pc, but time and money to buy the correct equipment (cables and software) is a hinderance.

Give me a few days to get them converted to MP3s and I'll put the links up here. Not sure what quality will be like. I'll give Brian access to the MP3s first and he can decide what he wants to be made public.

Okay, here's 3 of the tracks from Brian's tape. I'll leave them online until Saturday and then make some more available.
