The Musicians Survey
Let's try and breathe some life into this board.
What instrument(s) do the forum members play?, you can vote for any number. I've included vocals because singers are musicians too.
The Guitar is my main instrument. I play around with Keyboards but I've never dedicated the time to seriously learn to play them properly so I didn't vote for them as well, I also have a go at the Harmonica now and then and after Christmas I should have a 6-Course Lute under construction.

Re: The Musicians Survey
20 odd years of guitar, harmonica. My collection of instruments now includes an Irish bouzouki and I've started to take my music seriously again after a long time in the wilderness. I've recently teamed up with another guitarist and a female vocalist (who once appeared on opportunity knocks!!!)and we're working around some heavy melodic harmonies. Still early, but time will tell.

Re: The Musicians Survey
I learned on piano at age 7, moved to keyboards and electric synth at age 18. Got my first Hammond Organ, a chopped BV at age 34 (year 2001), and can say that the feel of the real deal is like no other. All that weight underneath you. The smell of tone generator oil and hot vacuum tubes wafting up inbetween the keys of the upper manual, and the sound of a Leslie ramping up and down....it's a multi-sense experience that far outreaches a digital keyboard's mere ability to emmulate the sound.
If you ever have a chance to get your hands on a real Hammond, chopped, stock, no matter the condition, I would not pass it up. Even if you're a guitarist and have had no prior desire to learn keyboard technique....a Hammond will make you WANT to learn organ, because as you play it and move all the drawbars in and out, you will accidently hit upon all the tones you've heard for years on DP albums....and you'll say to yourself, "!@#$! That's how he made that sound in (such and such) song!"
Hammond is like great sex....once you get a taste of it you want more!

Mainly guitar (electric and acoustic), although muck about with bass and keyboards too.

Re: The Musicians Survey
Bass is my main instrument - I've been playing for about 20 years now. I just play the electric now, but used to play the double bass as well (haven't picked it up in a long time, though). I also play some piano - I started when I was about 5, but was never as dedicated to it as I should have been.
I can also play a little bit of violin and cello, but I'm years out of practice on both! Oh yeah, I sing a little, too. Definitely not American Idol/Pop Idol caliber, but I do pretty good with backups in a band.

Re: The Musicians Survey
I'm a Licentiate of Trinity College London, performer's diploma..... but there ain't that much call for French Horn players in rock bands these days!
That said, the absolute best of wishes to each and every one of us who's trying to keep music live - the way it should be!!

Re: The Musicians Survey
The trick is John, you practise for years with 'air guitars' before you're ready to move on to the real heavy ones!
Not that I could ever play much music on one you understand - I stuck to the fretless bass, where no-one can ever tell if you've hit a wrong note or not!
