Re: Jon's Role In Whitesnake
I just don't see Jon Lord being in Whitesnake much past 1984. He just doesn't look the type who would get a perm and wear masscara to fit in the band. Espeacially being 43 years old at the time.
I've heard rumors that he was thought about being brought into Yes during this time. This would have been the Trevor Rabin era Yes.

a)
b)This is the first I've heard of this, when I saw Yes in subsequent shows in Seattle and Portland in 1985,they seemed very happy with their choice of Tony Kay,but then he was out after that tour.
Tony is a great keyboard player and highly underrated, possibly because of being overshadowed by the likes of Rick Wakeman.

Probably the best they did, aside from Live in the Heart of the City, which doesn't really count!

Re: Jon's Role In Whitesnake
I don't know of a bad WS album prior to SII.
Te questionable material didn't surface till post '84,why this isn't common knowledge is way over my head....or as I like to call it:"under my head" or "beneath me"!

Coming into this awfully late, I know, but here's a bit of evidence to back you up, from an interview with Jon conducted on April 14, 1984:
Mike Eriksson: The american market is the only one left to conquer. Is David ready to work as hard as it takes to crack it over there as well?
Jon: David might well be but then he would have to do it without me. That´s how Deep Purple conqured America, loads of concerts all the time. And it finished us as well. I hope that Whitesnake cracks America but I don´t intend to kill myself to make that happen.

The Deep Purple reunion was announced 13 days after this interview, although Jon indicates in this interview that he had not agreed to any reunion at that time.

Re: Jon's Role In Whitesnake
For some reason, the date April 20th, 1984 sticks out in my mind as the 'official' date of the Deep Purple MkII reunion...

Re: Jon's Role In Whitesnake
In the 1984 Danish TV interview (for the 4-part documentary series "Heavy Metal" ), interviewer Claus Hagen Petersen (pic below) asked Jon if DP would ever reunite.
-It was cut from the programme (topics were Whitesnake and the roots of HM), apparently Jon answered the question with a sly grin through the beard.
Not sure of the exact date of this interview, must've been recorded around the time of the WS gig in Copenhagen 1984, or CHP travelled for the interview. (In that case probably London or Sweden.)

Maybe you confuse it with the date of the first Deep Purple gig ever(April 20th 1968)?

No, I'm actually pretty sure I read that date somewhere pertaining to the 'formal' date for the reunion, and yes, I did find it very coincidental when I read it...maybe that was just a bit of publicity hype - the April 20th date - designed to tie in with the 'Destiny Brought Them Together Again' motto that was used for the first reunion tour (and some of the album advertizing, if I'm not completely mistaken).
