Re: Jon's Role In Whitesnake
Check out Saints&Sinners(considerd as bad by many but a personal favourite of mine) especially on Side B Jon is presented with some exciting solo spots and quite in the foreground as well.

Re: Jon's Role In Whitesnake
It may be slightly in the AOR direction, but I've always liked his thumping organ sound on "Don't Break My Heart Again" from "Come An' Get It". (Could of course be a slight nostalgic influence, it was afterall the very song which made me a Whitesnake fan in '81.)

Re: Jon's Role In Whitesnake
I don't know why this album is so neglected
could it have something to do with being sandwiched between two better albums?
I know Paice has been criticized for his input by many
including himself, but I like this album and have great memories of the time it was out, feeling Whitesnake was on the verge of something big in America,I just wish they wouldn't have had to change so much to make that a reality, thats when I jumped ship.

One of my top 5 Whitesnake tunes. It's just a fabulous track. Love the guitar in this too.

You took the words right out of my mouth.I can still remember the day when I put my brandnew 1987 (or "Serpens Albus")vinyl on the ol' turntable and started talking to myself. When I saw the "Here I Go Again" video I feld even worse.
But to me,all this is no reason to lose the faith in the early albums,it was a great time full of nice memories.
So when I pray WS I'm on about '78 - '84.

Re: Jon's Role In Whitesnake
I was disappointed about the change from "Slide It In" to "Serpens Albus".
For the production he had very good musicians and even Don Airey at the ivorys, where was the organ?
Ok,I remember it was (even here in Germany)high time for guitar hero bands and I'm quite sure that it played a role too, regarding the change.
Don't know if you know that John Sykes was on about:"Oh no,I want the keyboards in the background"....

I remember the sentence:"No way there will be a keyboard solo".
And Jons sentence from "Heavy Metal Pioneers" springs to mind:"At first I thought they're such a fine band, but then petty things started creeping in".
