Has Jon Lord ever lost his temper on stage?

Compared to Ritchie Blackmore, he's considered the consumate gentleman, but com'on; nobody can be perfectly polite all the time.

Has anyone ever seen in-person, or on video/DVD, a clip where Jon just for whatever reason, let something get to him, and he just flatout "lost it" on stage?

None of my DVD's show an ominous "edge" to him, but I'm sure somewhere out there, someone has seen it.

Jon seems nice enough 98% of the time, but he's got that height advantage, quick hand speed, and looks much more intimidating than his voice would seem to indicate. Like Goldie McJohn (from Steppenwolf), I don't think I'd want to be within 10 feet of him, and piss him off.

I never watched it myself, but I've definetly read somewhere that on one occasion Jon was so pissed off about Ritchie, not being correctly job-motivated on stage, that he walked towards him and told him off very annoyed and intense infront of the audience.

Would this have been in the first MK II formation, or in the 80's, or early 90's?

I could understand it if it were 1993. That seems to be the year that everyone had had it with RB...except RB himself, of course!

I think someone also told me that they saw DP in Europe or South America (I can't remember which), and they were doing an outdoor gig. It began pouring rain, and the tarps or tents that covered the stage broke loose, and JL and his Hammond got absolutely drenched!! He said Lord looked just bloody pissed off at the world. I guess I'd be too. But this was just one person's impression, they could have been wrong.

I can't imagine it myself. I had the opportunity to meet him during his days in Whitesnake and he was absoluteley charming, accompanied by the equally delightful Mrs Lord.

Like most of us I would imagine he has a limit, I heard he lost it with Glenn Hughes after a show.

On the old forum I remember there was a link to Tony Ashton's site where there were countless anecdotes from the old dog about his days with "The Lord of Goring on Thames" I think Tony wanted to publish this stuff but I don't know if he managed it before he passed away. Hilarious. (I just tried the link via THS but it doesn't seem to be working)

I never personally witnessed Lord displaying a loss of temper during a show with Deep Purple - or really heard of one, either. This doesn't mean he never did, though. I would, however, be a bit surprised to hear of it, as he along with Glover, always seemed to be the most even tempered of the various people that have been in and out of Purple through the years.

Any particular reason you don't mention Paicey in the well tempered (clavier) party?

I didn't know if you were talking to me, or Mr. Ed.
If you were talking to me, all I can say is that I've always considered IP to be pretty even keeled. It was big JL I was wondering about.

John, sorry my mistake. I replied to Ed's post, as he mentioned Jon and Roger as "most even tempered". I agree of course, and just got this thought about Paice wich you ovbiously share, John. And who doesn't, anyway?

Well, AT, Paice's job/instrument are a great way to give vent to any frustration(s) he may have been feeling - who'd know if he did lose his temper? Besides his kit, that is? emoticon
