Jon's rings

I for the life of me can't imagine how Jon has been able to play the Hammond wearing all those rings on various fingers over the years.

You would think rapid keyboard smears and glisses with rings on the fingers, would tear up keys and rip them right off the keyboard.

I always have to be careful of rings when I play. My wife hates it, but when I play out at gigs, the first thing I do is take off my wedding ring and stick it in my left pocket.

I mean don't get me wrong...I love my wife, but I don't want to have to replace keys or contact points on either my Roland VK nor my Hammond BV.

I've tried to explain this to her, and she's tepidly convinced, but really doesn't like it.

She's says, "At the Rotary Club maybe...but at a bar? For God's sake, what are you thinking?"

Anyway, how did Jon play with all those rings, and not find them cumbersome and distracting?

His fingers are quite long I've noticed.
...but I've seen Fats Domino in concert once
and I was right up front at a dinner club, and I could see that he was wearing two gigantic rings, and I mean they weren't the normal size big rings, they took up half of his hand. emoticon

Truth be told, you're right. Jon's fingers appear long enough that he can actually smear without laying his whole palm down on the keyboard. When watching pieces of the JL In Pictures DVD, they show him playing with the Hoochie Coochie Men at the first blues gig in Melborne. In his intro. to "Back at the Chicken Shack", he does some rapid glisses, and it's all finger tips, bent at the first joint. Theoretically the rings should be at least 3/8th's of an inch off the key surface as he goes down....plenty of clearance, though it doesn't appear so from far away.

I would know those fingers anywhere, there is a video you must have John,it's called "Doin Their Thing" from Granada TV appearance 1970,I've had this footage since 1982 or something, the close ups of Jon's fingers during Child In Time make his fingers forever identifiable, big rings and all.
It's time for you to contacted me again,we'll get our plans underway soon enough. emoticon
