The problem is that it obviously slowed down the connection of some people here. And everybody having an equal fast connection, is more important than some cool pictures, don´t you think?

Oh well.... You may be right.
I thought the site was pretty fast, even with the pictures and despite the fact that I'm not using broadband, just a dial-up thingy.

Me too. I'm on 56K dialup at home and I find it faster than THS forums, even with the gifs that you keep posting!

Nope. But all the images are deep links.
a)
They are not legal, because they steal bandwidth from the webserver that host them.
b)
Furthermore they also take time to download. More time altogether, than the personal icons.
c)
They get pretty tiresome after a while.

If so they asked for the traffic themselves. But still, in principle, deep linking is prohibited.
BTW many of those GIF libraries do not own the "copyright" of "their" gif's, even if they say you are free to use them, many of them down own that right to tell you so.

If by having them it does slow things up we could always delete them.
